HAMDEN, Conn. – Junior Felicia Barron (Springfield, Mass.) of the Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team won her third Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Player of the Week honor of the year, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
The 5-7 guard receives the weekly accolade after leading the Bobcats to two double-digit NEC wins against Wagner and Mount St. Mary’s last week. Barron, currently second amongst the conference’s scoring leaders with 17.6 points per game, paced Quinnipiac in each of its victories with a team-high average of 18 points per contest. Barron collected ten steals to maintain her NCAA lead in steals per game (4.6) as she logged 45 minutes of play for the Bobcats. In addition, she compiled five steals, two blocks and two assists over the two-game tilt.
The Springfield, Mass. native was the Bobcats’ leading scorer in each outing, registering 17 points against the Seahawks on Saturday and 19 points against the Mount on Monday night. Barron, who has now won the NEC weekly title three times during the month of January, shot 54.2 percent from the floor (13-for-24), including three-for-nine from beyond the arc. She also finished seven-of-eight attempts from the charity stripe.
Most recently, College Sports Madness, a collegiate athletics website, named Barron the NEC’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Barron has also garnered the NEC award last week on Jan. 24 and was named Co-Player of the Week on Jan. 17.
The Bobcats look for their seventh consecutive win when they return to action in a NEC showdown at Monmouth University on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 3 p.m. Quinnipiac, currently 16-5 on the year and 8-2 in league action, is ranked second in the conference standings, while the Hawks sit in third at 7-3.
