The Road
The Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team
(17-5 NEC) takes its season-best seven-game winning streak to
Fairleigh Dickinson University (10-13, 5-6 NEC) on Monday night.
The Bobcats take on the Knights in a Northeast Conference match-up
at the Stratis Arena in Hackensack, N.J. at 7 p.m. Quinnipiac
enters the game after picking up its 11th road win of
the year at Monmouth, 75-63, on Saturday afternoon, while FDU fell
to first-place Sacred Heart, 62-47, in its most recent contest.

Scouting The Knights
Fairleigh Dickinson enters Monday night at 5-6 in league
action, ranking seventh in the NEC standings with LIU Brooklyn.
Earlier in the season, the Knights went on their longest winning
streak, earning victories over four NEC opponents, but have since
lost four of their last five games. FDU is 5-5 at home and 4-7 on
the road this season. The team currently averages 56.8 points per
game and 40.4 rebounds per contest. Senior guard Mariyah Laury
leads FDU and ranks fourth in the NEC in scoring with 16.3 points
per outing, while two other Knights post double figures in the
scoring column, including Danielle Pankey (10.6 ppg) and Erica
Livermore (10.4 ppg). Livermore also averages a team-high 6.7
boards per game, while she and Laury rank in the top-five of NEC
opponents with free-throw percentages nearing the 80-percent
mark. Overall, the Knights lead the conference with five
blocks per game.
All-Time Against Fairleigh
Dickinson
Monday marks the 26th meeting between
Quinnipiac and Fairleigh Dickinson, with the Bobcats leading the
all-time series 21-4. QU remains undefeated at home, 11-0, and is
8-4 on the road with two NEC Quarterfinal wins at neutral sites.
Last season, the Bobcats split a pair of league games with the
Knights. Most recently, Quinnipiac defeated FDU, 75-56, on Feb. 26
at the TD Bank Sports Center. Three Bobcats saw double figures in
the outing, including Kari Goodchild, Brittany McQuain and Jacinda
Dunbar, while returning guard Mariyah Laury led the Knights with 15
points.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac continues to dominate NEC play as it won its
seventh straight game of the season with a 75-63 win at Monmouth on
Saturday, Feb. 4. Four Bobcats recorded double digits in the
scoring column, including Felicia Barron with a game-high 23
points. Freshman Samantha Guastella led the team with seven
rebounds and a career-high seven blocks on the afternoon as the
team outshot the Hawks with a 48.4 field-goal percentage
(30-for-62). The Bobcats forced 19 turnovers on which they
converted one-third of their total offense (25 pts).
Road Warriors
Quinnipiac has won 11 consecutive games on the road this season,
posting a 10-1 away record, also winning one neutral game against
Minnesota earlier in the season, making it QU’s longest
streak at the Division I level and the most since the 1983-84
season when Quinnipiac won 13-straight road games. The Bobcats look
to match the streak as they play their next two games on the
road.
Making History
Freshman Samantha Guastella blocked a career-high
seven shots against the Hawks on Saturday at the MAC. The
rookie’s seven-block performance is the second
most in a single game Quinnipiac 's Division I history.
Kim Misiasek set the record of eight blocks in a single contest
during the 1998 season at Monmouth.
Believe In Barron
Junior Felicia Barron has tallied a team-leading and
career-best 392 points this season. With seven games still
remaining in the regular season, Barron looks to become the
18th player in the QU women’s basketball program
to break the 1,000-point mark as she’s compiled 885 points in
her career at Quinnipiac.
Come Together
Six Bobcats have put together more than 100 points this
year, including two freshmen in Jasmine Martin and Gillian Abshire.
All of which, are shooting above the 35-percent mark from the
floor.
QU Wins
When…
The Bobcats are undefeated at 12-0 when leading at halftime and
post a 14-0 record when shooting better than their opponents.
‘Aint No Mountain High
Enough
Quinnipiac won its sixth straight game to improve to 8-2
in the NEC and maintain its second-place standing in the league as
it cruised past Mount St. Mary’s, 89-73, at home last Monday.
Twelve Bobcats added to the scoreboard, including six in double
digits, led by Felicia Barron with a team-high 19 points. QU
outshot the Mountaineers with a 58.2 field-goal percentage on the
night.
National Standings
As of Jan. 30, Quinnipiac improved to 56th in the RPI
Rankings, its best of the 2011-12 season, after compiling
back-to-back wins last week. The Bobcats’ standing in the
national rankings leads all NEC opponents. Last week, QU was
positioned in the 58th slot.
QU Gives Out Pointers
Quinnipiac posted a season-best final point total, 89
points, in its win over Mount St. Mary’s on Monday, Jan. 30.
The Bobcats have won each of their last five games by double
figures and have recorded at least 71 points in each of their last
seven outings. The team has also earned four wins this year by
scoring at least 80 points, all during the month of January.
Offensive Threats
For the first time this year, six Bobcats recorded double figures
in scoring against the Mount on Monday evening at the TD Bank
Sports Center. Felicia Barron made the largest impact with a
team-high 19 points. The 5-7 guard has made nine consecutive
appearances with double figures in the scoring column, while the
she has recorded double digits in all but two games this year.
Dishing Out Dimes
The Bobcats tallied a season-high 24 assists against the
Mountaineers on Monday. Freshman Shaina Earle led Quinnipiac in
assists with a career-best six on the night.
Shooting For The Stars
Quinnipiac posted their second-best performance of the
year in terms of shooting percentage as they finished 32-of-55
attempts from the floor (.582) against the Mount.
QU Athlete Of The
Month
Junior Felicia Barron was recently named Quinnipiac Athlete of the
Month for January after leading the Bobcats to a 7-1 mark during
the month. The Springfield, Mass. native led all Bobcats with an
average of 19 ppg and 26.8 minutes per outing, while she made 3.6
steals per contest to maintain her NCAA lead in steals (4.6 spg).
Barron also averaged 2.1 assists and 2.0 rebounds during January,
while shooting 46.3 percent from the floor.
Weekly Honors
Felicia Barron won her third Choice Hotels NEC Player of
the Week honor on Jan. 31 after leading QU in back-to-back NEC wins
against Mount St. Mary’s and Wagner. Barron also was selected
by College Sports Madness, a collegiate athletics website, as the
NEC Player of the Week on Monday, Jan. 30 for the second time this
year. The guard was honored by the website earlier in the season as
Mid-Major Player of the Week.
Seeing Double
Sophomore forward Brittany McQuain picked up her ninth
double-double of the year and 16th of her career with 10 points and
a game-high 13 rebounds against the Wagner Seahawks on Saturday,
Jan. 28.
The Bobcats’ Bench
The Bobcats’ bench remains an important asset to
their scoring abilities as at least nine student-athletes have
scored in each of Quinnipiac’s last five outings.
Stealing Streaks
QU’s Felicia Barron continues to rule the nation in
steals per game (4.6) as she’s led the Bobcats’ efforts
to lead the league with 10.8 steals per game. Barron’s
career-high 12-steal performance against Bryant is tied at first in
the NCAA standings for individual game-highs. Overall, Barron has
made at least one steal in all 22 games this year and has compiled
100 steals on the year, which breaks the QU Division I
Single-Season record for steals. Erin Kerner previously led the
category with 78 steals during the 2005-06 season.
Sensational Scoring
The Bobcats continue to dominate the NEC in scoring with
70.2 points per game. Felicia Barron ranks second in the league and
in the top-50 of the national rankings with 17.8 ppg. Jasmine
Martin (10.5 ppg) and Brittany McQuain (10.4 ppg), the Bobcats
second and third leading scorers, also rank in the top-25 of the
NEC in scoring.
Bobcats On The Boards
Quinnipiac remains the NEC’s leading team in
rebounding with 42.9 boards per outing. The Bobcats collected 50 or
more rebounds in back-to-back outings, prior to playing Wagner.
Brittany McQuain leads the Bobcats’ rebounding efforts with
9.5 rpg, which also ranks fourth amongst NEC opponents and in the
top-50 of the national standings.
What’s Ahead For The
Bobcats
The Bobcats will take on Central Connecticut State in
back-to-back outings as a part of the NEC’s rivalry week.
Quinnipiac will first play at CCSU on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m.
before hosting the Blue Devils on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.
After QU travels to LIU Brooklyn on Feb. 18, the Bobcats will host
their three remaining league games of the regular season.
