The Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team
(21-6, 13-3 NEC) hosts Northeast Conference opponent Robert Morris
University (16-11, 10-6 NEC) on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1:30 p.m. at
the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. The Bobcats will honor
their two seniors, Kari Goodchild and Jacinda Dunbar, prior to
tip-off on Saturday afternoon. QU enters the weekend after winning
its fourth straight NEC game to move into the first spot of the
league standings, alongside Sacred Heart. The Colonials are
currently third in the conference rankings with Monmouth and Saint
Francis (Pa.). Fans can watch the game live on ESPN-3.

Scouting Robert Morris
Robert Morris currently stands at 16-11 overall and
improved to 10-6 in the NEC after winning four consecutive league
games in the past two weeks. Most recently, the Colonials defeated
Central Connecticut State, 75-48, and Bryant, 72-68, on their home
court. RMU currently ranks second, behind Quinnipiac, in the
conference standings in scoring offense with 67.9 points per game.
The Colonials also have the second best free-throw percentage in
the NEC (74.4 percent) while ranking third in rebounding with 41.5
boards per outing. RMU is led by sophomore Artemis Spanou, who
leads the team and stands sixth amongst NEC opponents with 16.5
points per contest, while leading the league with 10.8 rpg. Fellow
Colonials’ Mary Durojaye (13.4) and Briannica Tye (12.9) also
rank in the top-ten of the NEC in scoring offense. Tye also ranks
second in the conference in assists per game (5.26), while Durojaye
paces the league in offensive rebounds (3.7/game).
All-Time Against The Colonials
Saturday marks the 24th meeting between
Quinnipiac and Robert Morris, with the Bobcats leading the all-time
series, 14-9. Last year, the Colonials picked up a 75-67 win on
Jan. 29 at the Bobcats’ home court. Most recently, QU
defeated Robert Morris, 82-74, on Jan. 16, 2012.
Last Time Against RMU
The Bobcats look for a season sweep against the Colonials
on Saturday afternoon. In their most recent match-up, QU earned an
82-74, league victory over Robert Morris earlier in the season.
Four Bobcats posted double figures in the scoring column, including
Felicia Barron with 26 points and Jasmine Martin with 22 points for
career highs. RMU saw both Artemis Spanou and Mary Durojaye with
double-doubles in the contest.
Last Time Out
In their most recent outing, the Bobcats defeated St.
Francis (N.Y.), 64-41, in a Monday matinee at the TD Bank Sports
Center. QU was led by a trio of Bobcats, including freshman Jasmine
Martin who scored a game-high 16 points. Senior Kari Goodchild
tallied 14 points, while Felicia Barron put up 12 points. The
Bobcats led by as many as 28 points on the afternoon while shooting
36.9 percent from the floor. QU controlled the paint as it
outscored the Terriers, 34-to-20.
A Determined Defense
Quinnipiac held St. Francis (N.Y.) to 28.3 percent from
the floor on Monday afternoon, the third time this season that the
Bobcats have held their opponents to a field-goal percentage under
30-percent. QU also out-rebounded the Terriers, 54-to-39, the
fourth time this year that the Bobcats have put up at least 50
boards in a contest.
RPI Rankings
QU moved into the 49th position, atop all NEC opponents, in the
NCAA Women’s Basketball RPI rankings on Monday, Feb. 20. The
Bobcats were previously ranked 62nd in last week’s
standings.
Hot Streak
Quinnipiac has now won 10 of its last 11 games played after winning
four consecutive league contests. The Bobcats are also 18-0 when
outshooting their opponents this season. Additionally, the Bobcats
are undefeated at 10-0 when playing on Saturdays.
Senior Swag
Quinnipiac will honor its two seniors prior to the start
of Saturday’s game. Seniors Kari Goodchild and Jacinda Dunbar
will be recognized for their tremendous impact and dedication to
the women’s basketball program.
Owning Overtime
The Bobcats won, 54-51, in their second overtime game of the
2011-12 season at LIU Brooklyn on Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Wellness
Center. QU is now 2-0 in overtime this year after also beating
Rhode Island, 72-67, earlier in the season. Both overtime games
have been played on the road.
Double Trouble
Sophomore Brittany McQuain recorded her 10th double-double of the
season and 17th of her career at LIU Brooklyn on Saturday. McQuain
is currently the Bobcats’ top rebounder, averaging 9.5 rpg,
and is third on the team in scoring offense with 10.5 points per
game.
Road Warriors
Before falling at FDU, QU had won 11 consecutive games on
any court besides the Bobcats’ home arena, the most since the
1983-84 season when Quinnipiac won 13-straight road games. After
winning at CCSU and LIU, the Bobcats are now 12-2 with one win at a
neutral site.
Brittany On The Boards
Sophomore Brittany McQuain averaged a double-double with 10 points
and 10 rebounds in the Bobcats’ two-game tilt last week.
McQuain currently has pulled down 256 rebounds this season, which
ranks third in QU’s Division-I single-season history for
rebounds.
Awesome Awards
College Sports Madness named Quinnipiac forward Brittany McQuain
Madness NEC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, as
announced on Monday, Feb. 20 by the college athletics’
website. McQuain has received the honor twice during her sophomore
campaign.
Believe In Barron
The Bobcats’ Felicia Barron continues to lead the
team’s offensive effort with a team-leading 17.1 points per
game. The 5-7 guard also leads the team, NEC, and nation in steals
with 4.5 per game. She continues to close down on reaching the
1,000-point mark as she’s compiled a career-high 462 points
in her junior season and 955 points in her career.
The Bobcats’ Bench
The Bobcats’ bench continues to be a tremendous
asset this season as they’ve combined for 25.0 points per
game, while Quinnipiac’s opponents’ reserves average
16.9 points per contest. QU’s bench totaled a season-high 46
points earlier in the season against Mount St. Mary’s on Jan.
30. In addition, nine players on QU’s squad of 15
student-athletes are currently averaging minutes in the
double-digits.
What’s Ahead For The Bobcats
Quinnipiac returns to action when it hosts Saint Francis
(Pa.) in its regular-season finale on Monday, Feb. 27. Tip-off is
scheduled for 7 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center. The Bobcats have
clinched a spot in the 2012 NEC Tournament and will play in the
Quarterfinals on Saturday, March 3. Please refer to the official
