Bobcats Host Sacred Heart
The Quinnipiac women’s basketball team (5-2, 1-0
NEC) will host in-state foe Sacred Heart (6-1, 1-0 NEC) on Monday,
Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center. Both teams stand
undefeated in Northeast Conference play after winning each of their
conference openers on Saturday, Dec. 3. The Bobcats won their fifth
straight contest as they defeated Bryant, 67-56, while the Pioneers
knocked off Central Connecticut State, 53-40.

Scouting Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart enters the NEC match-up at 6-1 on the year,
after picking up its only loss of the season at St. Joseph’s,
63-54. The Pioneers have defeated non-conference opponents
including Siena, 62-45, Columbia, 60-42, Lehigh, 68-41, Colgate,
78-51, and Stony Brook, 55-33. In its most recent outing, Sacred
Heart defeated Central Connecticut State, 53-40, to go ahead 1-0 in
the league standings. Callan Taylor picked up a double-double with
15 points and a team-leading 12 rebounds, while Gabrielle
Washington scored a career and game-high 17 points in the NEC
victory. Taylor leads the Pioneers with 14.7 points and 10.1 boards
per game, while Washington currently averages 11.1 points per
contest. Additionally, Taylor posts a 55.4 shooting percentage
(41-for-74) from the floor. Overall, Sacred Heart has outscored its
opponents by 15 points per game, 61.4-to-46.5.
All-Time Against The Pioneers
Sacred Heart leads the all-time series with Quinnipiac,
33-24. Last year, the Bobcats split a pair of games against the
Pioneers during NEC Rivalry week as they won, 61-56, on Feb. 12 and
lost, 66-54, on Feb. 14 during the 2010-11 season.
Last Time Out
The Bobcats won their fifth straight game as they earned
their first NEC win of the season against Bryant, 67-56, on
Saturday, Dec. 3. It was a record-breaking day for Quinnipiac as
junior Felicia Barron broke a Division I single-game record as she
compiled 12 steals in the league win. Barron also scored 16 points
to collect her first double-double of the season. Sophomore
Brittany McQuain recorded her 13th career double-double
with 11 points and 11 rebounds while freshman Jasmine Martin
registered a game-high 18 points.
Stealing The Show
The Bobcats combined for 20 steals against Bryant, the
most since most since Quinnipiac tallied 21 steals at Sacred Heart
on February 25, 2006.
Stealing Her Way To The Top
After making a career-high 12 steals against Bryant,
Junior Felicia Barron currently averages 6.1 steals per game. As of
Nov. 27, Barron had ranked third in the nation in steals per game.
However, Barron’s record-breaking number of steals against
the Bulldogs puts her at the top of the leader board.
Double Trouble
As of Nov. 27, sophomore Brittany McQuain was tied at
fifth in the nation in double-doubles (4). After collecting an
additional two double-doubles during this week’s wins against
UMass and Bryant, McQuain has totaled six on the year.
Brittany On The Boards
McQuain currently averages a team-leading 10.7 rebounds
per game to rank in the top-25 of the national rankings.
A Season First
Quinnipiac had two players record a double-double against
Bryant as Felicia Barron (16 pts, 12 steals) and Brittany McQuain
(11 pts, 11 rebs.) each posted double figures in two statistical
categories, for the first time during this year.
The Bobcats Can Block
Quinnipiac picked up a season-high nine blocks against
Bryant to combine for 81 blocks on the year. Sophomore Camryn
Warner led the Bobcats with a career-high five blocks in the
outing.
Gillian’s Got It
Freshman Gillian “Boo” Abshire recorded
career-highs against the Bulldogs as she registered seven points
and eight rebounds. Abshire currently averages 2.7 points and 4.3
boards per game.
Assisting The Win
The Bobcats totaled 17 assists in the team’s win
over Bryant, led by junior Lisa Lebak who tallied a team-leading
five assists in the contest, while Felicia Barron and Jacinda
Dunbar each added four assists.
Turning It Around
Quinnipiac forced a season-high 20 turnovers against
Bryant, creating 21.3 turnovers per game this year.
Leading Ladies
Three Bobcats post double-figures in points per game
including Felicia Barron (14.1), Jasmine Martin (13.3) and Brittany
McQuain (13.1). McQuain and Camryn Warner lead Quinnipiac in
rebounds with 10.7 and 6.1 boards per game, respectively.
Guardian Angel
Felicia Barron continues to lead the Bobcats on the
court. The 5-7 guard ranks first in several statistical categories,
including points (99), assists (26), steals (43), and assists
(26).
Charity Stripe Stats
Freshman Jasmine Martin is currently shooting a team-high
76 percent (19-for-25) from the free-throw line.
What’s Ahead for Quinnipiac In 2011
The Bobcats compete in four non-conference games for the
remainder of 2011. Quinnipiac will travel to play Rhode Island on
Saturday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. before hosting Yale on Tuesday, Dec. 20
at 4 p.m. The team will then play a pair of road games at American
on Wednesday, Dec. 28 and Army on Friday, Dec. 30, both of which
will start at 7 p.m.
