Bobcats Resume NEC Play
The Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team
(9-4, 1-1 NEC) will resume Northeast Conference play when they take
on St. Francis (N.Y.) College (1-12, 0-2 NEC) on Saturday, Jan. 7.
Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Pope Physical Education
Center in Brooklyn Heights, N.Y.

Scouting St. Francis (N.Y.)
The Terriers currently stand at 1-12 on the year and 0-2
in league action. St. Francis (N.Y.) picked up a 48-44 win against
Columbia at home and lost to NEC opponents, Wagner, 49-45, and
Mount St. Mary’s, 70-48, earlier in the season. Saint Francis
(N.Y.) dropped its most recent outing at Manhattan, 50-37, on Dec.
28. The Terriers currently average 45.4 points per game and post a
39.4 field-goal shooting percentage. Jaymee Veney leads the team
with 9.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Jasmine Robinson ranks
second in scoring with 8.3 points per game and leads the Terriers
in steals (19) and assists (29). Sarah Benedetti leads St. Francis
(N.Y.) from three-point range with a 31.7 shooting percentage
(20-for-63), while Veney averages a team-leading 70.3 percent
shooting percentage from the charity stripe.
All-Time Against the
Terriers
Saturday marks the 23rd meeting between
Quinnipiac and St. Francis (N.Y.) with the Bobcats leading the
all-time series with St. Francis (N.Y.), 16-6. Quinnipiac is 8-2 in
Hamden, Conn. and 8-4 on the road. Last year, the Bobcats outlasted
the Terriers, 56-54, on Feb. 7, 2011 on the road. QU’s
Brittany McQuain led the game with 17 points.
Last Time Out
In its most recent outing, the Bobcats dropped its final
non-conference tilt of the season to St. Joseph’s, 71-54, at
the TD Bank Sports Center. Quinnipiac freshman Samantha Guastella
registered a career-high 16 points and matched a career-high eight
boards against the Hawks. Despite the loss, the Bobcats forced 18
turnovers on the night.

Still At The Top In Steals
Junior Felicia Barron continues to lead the nation, league
and team in steals with 70 on the year and 5.4 steals per game.
Dominating Double-Doubles
Sophomore Brittany McQuain ranks in the top-20 in the
national standings with seven double-doubles on the year. The
sophomore has combined for 14 career double-doubles.
She Shoots, She Scores
Felicia Barron is currently in the fifth slot of the NEC
rankings with 15.8 points per game. Barron is the only Bobcat to
have reached the 200-point mark with 200 total points this
season.
Ranking In Rebounds
Forward Brittany McQuain leads the team and ranks second
in the league with 9.9 rebounds per game, which also stands in the
top-30 of the national leader board. The 5-11 sophomore has
collected 129 boards this year.
The Bobcats Can Block
Sophomore forward Camryn Warner ranks fourth in the
conference standings in blocks per game (1.46) with 19 total on the
year.
Featured Freshman
Freshman Jasmine Martin leads the Bobcats and ranks sixth
in the NEC standings with a 77.6 free-throw shooting percentage.
Martin currently ranks second on the team in points per game (11.2)
and is one of three Bobcats to have reached the 100-point scoring
mark with 145 points in her rookie campaign.
Felicia From Three-Point
Range
Felicia Barron is second in the conference rankings in
three-point field goals made as she averages 1.92 three-pointers
per game. The 5-7 guard leads the Bobcats with a total of 25
three-pointers this season.
The Scoring Situation
The Bobcats currently leads the Northeast Conference in
scoring offense with 66 points per game. The team also ranks fifth
amongst NEC schools with a +0.7 scoring margin.
Bobcats On The Boards
Quinnipiac also ranks first in league action in rebounding
offense as they currently average 43.2 boards per game. The Bobcats
are fifth in the conference standings in rebounding margin
(+1.3).
Leading The League
The Bobcats are at the top of the NEC rankings in
assist-turnover ratio (0.88) and also lead the conference with a
turnover margin of +3.38. Quinnipiac ranks second in assists per
game (14.31) and third in steals per game (10.46) amongst the NEC
competition.
The Bobcats Win When…
Quinnipiac has earned each of its nine wins this season
when holding its opponents to 69 points or less. The Bobcats have
also gone 4-0 when leading at halftime and 6-0 when shooting better
than their opponent.
A Win At Army
The Bobcats won their fourth-straight contest and second
against a Patriot League foe, when they outlasted Army, 54-51, on
Friday, Dec. 30 in West Point, N.Y. Quinnipiac’s
Felicia Barron led the team with 13 points, while Brittany McQuain
posted 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds in the outing.
Barron also pulled down a season-high six boards, while freshman
Nikoline Ostergaard scored a career-high seven points against the
Black Knights. Overall, the Bobcats out-rebounded Army, 44-to-36,
and managed to lead by as many as 13 points that night.
Additionally, the QU bench registered 16 points, while the team
totaled 15 points off turnovers and 10 second-chance points.
A Win At American
Quinnipiac defeated Patriot League opponent American,
72-59, on Dec. 28 in Washington, D.C. in the team’s first
meeting in program history. Felicia Barron scored a game-high 21
points, while Brittany McQuain pulled down a career-high 17
rebounds. The Bobcats stayed ahead of the Eagles for the entire
game and the team’s 13-point final scoring margin registers
as Quinnipiac’s highest of the season. The Bobcats also
out-rebounded the Eagles, 38-to-32.
Season-High Shooting
Quinnipiac shot a season-high 50 percent from the floor
(26-52) and 52.9 percent from three-point range (19-17) at
American. Felicia Barron led the Bobcats’ efforts from behind
the arc as she finished five-of-eight three-pointers on the
night.
What A Good Game
Senior Kari Goodchild scored a season-high 16 points
against the Eagles, shooting six-for-eight from the floor and
two-for-four from three-point range. She also collected two points
from the charity stripe while compiling five boards.
Assisting The Win
Freshman Gillian Abshire tallied a career-high seven
assists at American across 22 minutes of play in her
11th start of her rookie campaign.
A Victory Before The Holidays
The Bobcats defeated Yale, 68-63, on Dec. 20. Junior
Felicia Barron led Quinnipiac with a season-high 24 points, while
sophomore Brittany McQuain posted her seventh double-double of the
year with 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Over The Hill
The Bobcats outrebounded Yale by 20 (56-to-36) as the team
pulled down a season-high 56 rebounds, the first time this season
that Quinnipiac has posted above 50 boards in an outing.
What’s Ahead For
Quinnipiac
The Bobcats return to action when they host Long Island on
Monday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden,
Conn. before traveling to Pennsylvania to take on NEC foes Saint
Francis (Pa.) on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 1 p.m. and Robert Morris on
Jan. 16 at 7 p.m.
