BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Junior Felicia Barron's (Springfield, Mass.) jumper with less than a minute remaining in overtime propelled the Quinnipiac University women's basketball team to a 54-51 Northeast Conference victory at LIU Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Brittany McQuain collected a double-double with a team-high 18 points and 11 rebounds as the Bobcats improved to 20-6 overall and 12-3 in NEC action. The Blackbirds drop to 19-8 on the year and 8-7 in conference play.

Barron registered the second most points for Quinnipiac (9), while freshman Samantha Guastella (Red Bank, N.J.) scored eight points. Freshman Jasmine Martin (Sicklerville, N.J.) made three of the Bobcats' 12 steals. LIU Brooklyn's Ashley Palmer led the game with 29 points, 18 of which she tallied in the first half, while Ebony Davis pulled down a team-high 12 boards for the Blackbirds.

The Bobcats forced 24 turnovers, while QU committed 15 turnovers in the outing. Each team shot around 33 percent throughout the contest, while the Blackbirds out-rebounded the Bobcats, 55-to-38.

Both squads traded baskets throughout the first nine minutes of play, until LIU Brooklyn went on a 7-0 run to widen the gap, 18-10, midway through the first half. After three scoreless minutes, Quinnipiac's McQuain finished a layup at 7:03 to get the Bobcats' back into the game.

Moments later, Palmer answered with two points for the Blackbirds, but the Bobcats responded with their own 7-0 run to come within one point of LIU, 20-19, with just over two minutes on the clock. The Blackbirds outscored Quinnipiac, 5-2, during the remainder of the half to send LIU into the second stanza ahead, 26-21.

Two minutes into the second frame, the Bobcats' Camryn Warner (Keene, N.H.) nailed the first three-pointer of the afternoon to place Quinnipiac five points behind LIU, 31-26. The Blackbirds registered six straight points to increase their advantage by nine points, their largest lead of the contest, with just over 13 minutes remaining.

After each team tallied five points over the next five minutes, the Bobcats went on a 9-0 run to tie the game, 42-42, on a McQuain layup nearing the five-minute mark. Guastella gave QU its first lead of the frame as she added two points a minute later, but Davis would answer with a Blackbirds' layup.

With two minutes to play, both clubs registered a basket to keep the score even at 46 points apiece. However, with only 11 seconds on the clock, Guastella stepped up to the line where she finished both free-throw attempts, giving QU a two-point advantage, 48-46. With four seconds to go, LIU's Palmer drew the foul and added her own two points from the charity stripe, sending the Bobcats into their second overtime of the season.

After Guastella scored two points at 3:20, Palmer finished the Blackbirds' only shot from behind the arc at the two-minute mark. Barron went on to give QU back its lead as she scored a jumper nearing three-point range with 40 seconds to play, followed by two free-throws seconds later.

The Bobcats return to action when they host the St. Francis (N.Y.) Terriers in a NEC match-up on Monday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.
