Welcome to Miami
The Quinnipiac University women's basketball team heads to Miami, Fla. to take part in Florida International University's Fun & Sun Classic on Saturday, Dec. 29 and Sunday, Dec. 30. The Bobcats will face the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech in the opening round with tip-off set for 8 .m. at the U.S. Century Bank Arena. Georgia Tech is currently 5-5 overall in non-conference play.
Fun and Sun Classic
Joining the Bobcats in the tournament are the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Northeastern Huskies, and the Florida International Wildcats. Depending on the outcomes of the games, QU will face Northeastern or Florida International at 4/6 p.m. on Sunday evening.

Scouting the Yellow Jackets
Georgia Tech enters the FIU Tournament with an overall record of 5-5 after a win over the Washington Huskies, 52-44, on Dec. 21. The Yellow Jackets opened their season with a difficult schedule, meeting No. 20 Tennessee, Marquette, and Syracuse within the first five games. Junior Tyaunna Marshall leads the team in scoring, averaging 16.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. In the Jacket's last outing against the Huskies, Marshall led the team pulling down a career-best 14 rebounds while freshman Aaliyah Whiteside added a career-best 19 points going 7-of-16 from the field. Whiteside was later recognized as the ACC Player of the Week, announced on Monday, December 24. Head coach MaChelle Joseph enters her 10th season on the Tech sidelines. Last year the Yellow Jackets won a school-record 26 games, advanced to their second ACC Championship game and made their way to their first NCAA Sweet 16 appearance.

Last Time Out
In their most recent outing, the Bobcats defeated St. John's, 75-72, at the TD Bank Sports Center last week (Dec. 22). Quinnipiac featured five players in double figures, led by Felicia Barron's 19 points and Samantha Guastella's 11-point, 10-rebound double-double. Guastella's double-double was her second of the season. Nikoline Ostergaard had 13 points, coming off the bench, while Jasmine Martin added 12 points, with eight coming in the second half. Brittany McQuain added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Bobcats. The last time the Bobcats posted five players in double figures was Jan. 30, 2012 when QU defeated Mount St. Mary's, 83-79.
The Bobcats are ranked 43rd in the latest RPI poll, released on Tuesday, December 25, 2012. The weekly rankings are a based on wins and losses compared to their strength of schedule.
Mid-Major Top 25
The Quinnipiac women's basketball team was ranked 19th in the latest College Insider Top-25 Mid-Major Poll, announced on Wednesday, December 26, 2012. Last week the Bobcats held their highest rank (No.17) in Quinnipiac history since becoming eligible for the poll back in 1998 when they joined NCAA Division I.
Quinnipiac is currently ranked ninth in the country with a turnover margin of plus-8.5 a game. The Bobcats have 135 turnovers compared to 205 from their opponents. The Bobcats also rank 10th in the nation in steals per game at 12.6 per game.
Stealing the Show
Senior Felicia Barron currently ranks third in the nation in steals per game (4.2). So far this year the guard has compiled 38 steals in nine games. Most recently, she collected a game-high of eight steals in the games against Hartford (12/16). Last year the Springfield, Mass. native led the country with 133 steals.
Sophomore point guard Gillian Abshire currently ranks 32nd in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2). In the last nine games 'Boo' has 41 assists to only 19 turnovers. In the game against Yale (11/28), Abshire collected eight assists and only one turnover in her best performance of her sophomore campaign.
What's Ahead For Quinnipiac In January
The all-important Northeast Conference schedule starts five days into the New Year, beginning with a three-game home-stand at the Bank. The Bobcats welcome 2012 NEC Semifinalist LIU Brooklyn on Saturday (Jan. 5), St. Francis (N.Y.) on Monday (Jan. 7) and 2012 Champion Sacred Heart (Jan. 12). Other notable home games include, 2012 NEC finalist Monmouth on Monday, February 11, and Senior Day against Bryant on Monday, February 25. Both match-ups are set for 7 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center.
