Women’s Basketball Brittany McQuain Named NEC Player of the Week

HAMDEN, Conn.-Junior Brittany McQuain (Independence, Mo.) of the Quinnipiac University women's basketball team was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week, announced on Tuesday January 15, 2013. McQuain helped the Bobcats to two straight victories over NEC opponents Sacred Heart and Bryant with back-to-back double-doubles.

McQuain posted back-to-back double-doubles to help Quinnipiac (4-0) remain unbeaten in Northeast Conference play last week.  The junior forward averaged 16.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per contest over a two-game swing that featured a home date against defending NEC champion Sacred Heart and a road game at Bryant.  She shot 54 percent from the field during the stretch and was charged with only two personal fouls all weekend.  McQuain was a monster in the post against the Pioneers, who were picked to finish second behind the Bobcats in the league's preseason coaches' poll.

The 5-foot-11 Missouri native scored 21 points, on 9-for-16 shooting, and secured 10 rebounds in the convincing 74-45 victory over the local rival.  On the floor for 33 minutes, McQuain, who turned the ball over only twice and made four steals, was part of a defensive effort that stifled Sacred Heart and held the defending conference champs to lowest scoring output of the season.  Helping Quinnipiac extend its win streak to five and improve its road record to 4-1, McQuain tallied 12 points and 13 rebounds in 27 minutes at Bryant on Monday night. The veteran post presence logged two assists to only one turnover as the Bobcats posted their third consecutive victory by a margin greater than 20 points.

The Bobcats travel to Pennsylvania this weekend as they will take on the Robert Morris Colonials on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Charles L. Sewall Center in Moon Township, Pa.  Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.  The Colonials are currently 3-11 overall and 2-1 in NEC action.
