Women's Basketball Ranked 24th In CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac Women's Basketball team has continued to impress the voters at the College Insider Mid-Major Poll. Quinnipiac was ranked 24th  in the most recent poll, announced on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2013 by coaches on the committee. Quinnipiac is no stranger to this honor as they appeared in the poll on 17 different occasions last season.

The Bobcats are 3-4 overall, but have faced the fourth toughest schedule in the country before they open MAAC play on Friday. Four of the seven teams that Quinnipiac has faced so far made the NCAA Tournament last season. Quinnipiac also faced off against Louisville and St. John's, who were top two in the country in RPI at the time of the matchup.  

Quinnipiac features the current MAAC Player of the Week in Brittany McQuain (Independence,Mo.). McQuain is coming off a week in which she averaged 21 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. McQuain has averaged double figures for three straight weeks. Junior guard Jasmine Martin (Sicklerville,NJ) leads the Bobcats with 15.4 points per game while junior guard Gillian  Abshire (Washington,DC) leads the team, the conference, and is fifth in the country with 7.6 assists per game. Quinnipiac has the top offense in the MAAC as the Bobcats are scoring 76.3 points per game.

The College Insider Mid-Major poll featured Gonzaga in the top slot, taking 27 first place votes. Green Bay claimed second, the Cougars of BYU garnered third, while Saint Mary's and Bowling Green rounded out the top five. Quinnipiac's MAAC foe Marist claimed the No. 18 spot. Quinnipiac will face off against Marist on Friday, Dec. 6. The game can be seen live nationally on ESPN 3 at 6:00 PM.
