Women's Basketball Ranked 24th In Most Recent CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac Women's Basketball team has continued to impress the voters in the College Insider Mid-Major Poll. The Bobcats are in the Mid-Major Poll for the third consecutive week. Quinnipiac was ranked 24th for the second consecutive week in the most recent poll, announced on Tuesday, December 10th, 2013 by coaches on the committee. Quinnipiac is no stranger to this honor as they appeared in the poll on 17 different occasions last season.

The Bobcats are 4-5 overall, but have faced the fourth toughest schedule in the country and faced the eight time defending MAAC Champion in Marist on Friday. Five of the nine teams that Quinnipiac has faced so far made the NCAA Tournament last season. Quinnipiac also faced off against Louisville and St. John's, who were top two in the country in RPI at the time of the matchup.  

Quinnipiac features the sixth leading scorer in the MAAC in Jasmine Martin (Sicklerville,NJ). Martin is scoring 15.1 points per game while senior forward Brittany McQuain (Independence,Mo.) is 13th in the conference scoring 12.2 points per game. Quinnipiac has the highest scoring offense in the MAAC scoring 73.2 points per game. Quinnipiac also is led by junior point guard Gillian Abshire (Washington,DC) who is first in the MAAC and seventh in the country in assists per game with 7.4 assists per game.

The College Insider Mid-Major poll featured Gonzaga in the top slot, taking 27 first place votes. BYU claimed second, Bowling Green garnered third, while Albany and San Diego rounded out the top five. Quinnipiac's MAAC foe Marist claimed the No. 18 spot. Quinnipiac will face off against No. 4 in the Mid-Major Poll, Albany, on Sunday, Dec. 15. The game is slated for a 2 PM start at SEFCU Arena.
