Women's Basketball Ranked No. 22 In Most Recent College Insider Mid-Major Poll

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's basketball team was ranked 22nd in the most recent College Insider Mid-Major Poll, announced on Tuesday, December 24th, 2013 by coaches on the committee. This is the fifth consecutive week that Quinnipiac was ranked in the top 25. The Bobcats are 6-6 overall, but have faced six teams that made the NCAA Tournament last season.

The Bobcats went 1-1 on the week, but picked up their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win in school history at Canisius. Quinnipiac has also defeated Albany (No. 9) and American (No. 20) so far this season.

Quinnipiac features three players who are averaging double figures in Jasmine Martin (Sicklerville,NJ), Brittany McQuain (Independence,Mo), and Gillian Abshire (Washington,DC)

Martin is fifth in the MAAC in scoring averaging 15.7 points per game. With 39 more points she will become the 20th player in school history to score 1000 career points. McQuain, already a member of the 1000 point club, is third in the conference in rebounding with 8.7 rebounds per game. McQuain needs 34 rebounds to move into fourth place in school history. Abshire is currently ninth in the country in assists per game after a year in which she had the best assist to turnover ratio in the country.

The College Insider Mid-Major poll featured Gonzaga in the top slot, taking 26 first place votes. San Diego claimed second taking 5 first place votes, BYU garnered third, while Bowling Green and Chattanooga rounded out the top five.

The Bobcats return to action for their third conference game of the regular season on Sunday, Dec. 29th as the Bobcats will take on the Purple Eagles of Niagara. Tip-off will be at 1:00 P.M. at the TD Bank Sports Center.
