Hamden, Conn. – Maria Napolitano (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Adily Martucci (Waterford, Conn.) both scored career highs with 20 and 17 points respectively. Samantha Guastella (Red Bank, NJ) and Jasmine Martin (Sicklerville, NJ) each scored 13 points to give the Bobcats four players in double figures. Quinnipiac went on to defeat the Niagara Purple Eagles, 84-61, in their final game of 2013. Quinnipiac improves to 7-6 overall and 2-1 in the MAAC, while Niagara falls to 2-8 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Gillian Abshire (Washington,DC) finished one assist shy of a double-double with 10 rebounds and nine assists. Camryn Warner (Keene, NH) finished with nine points and 12 rebounds, as Quinnipiac held the edge on the boards as they tallied a season high 59 rebounds.The Bobcats also held a 20-9 turnover advantage for the afternoon.
At the break, Napolitano was the leading scorer with 13 points and was just one point shy of a career high. Martucci had a career high 12 points in the first half on 3-of-5 shooting. It was the first time in her career that she scored in double figures.
Niagara held a 16-4 advantage for points in the paint in the first half, but the Bobcats were able to take a 13-2 points off turnovers advantage and a 19-9 bench scoring advantage to build the double digit lead.
The Purple Eagles started the second half with a 13-3 run to cut the Bobcats lead to five with 14:39 in the second half. Chanel Johnson cut the Quinnipiac lead to two with a jumper with 11:45 remaining, however, Quinnipiac kept composure and responded with a furious rally.
Quinnipiac would close the game on a 32-9 run. The Bobcats held a 14-6 second chance points advantage in the second half as well as an 11-8 points off turnovers advantage. Martin scored 11 second half points while going 7-for-9 from the free throw line.
Quinnipiac finishes 2013 with an overall record of 28-7. The Bobcats will have a few days off for the holiday before returning to action on January 3rd against Rider. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 PM at the TD Bank Sports Center.
