Riverdale, N.Y. – Brittany McQuain (Independence, Mo.) and Jasmine Martin (Sicklerville, N.J.) finished out the regular season in impressive fashion as they paced the Bobcats to an 86-78 victory over Manhattan College on Saturday afternoon in Riverdale. Quinnipiac finishes their inaugural regular season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with a 19-11 overall record and a 14-6 conference record.
A winner in seven of its last nine games now, Quinnipiac was once again led by MAAC Player of the Year candidate, Brittany McQuain. McQuain finished with 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting. She also pulled down five rebounds and added four assists, two steals and a block. With 18 points she passed Maria Holland '86 for ninth place on the all-time Quinnipiac scoring list (1,358). McQuain currently has 1,370 career points and is just eight points behind Monique Lee '08 for eighth place on the all-time list.
Both teams would nearly double their efficiency in the second half. The Jaspers shot 61.5 percent from the field (16-26) and 62.5 percent from beyond the arc (5-for-8). The Bobcats shot 70.8 percent from the field (17-for-24) and 70 percent (7-for-10) from behind the three point line.
Quinnipiac opened the half on a 16-5 run to take a seven point lead. The Bobcats would not trail for the rest of the game. The Bobcats built a lead as large as 14 in the second half as they closed out the game and went on to win by eight. Quinnipiac held advantages in points in the paint (18-10) and points off turnovers (13-8), but their major advantage came from their bench scoring (23-12).
