WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women's golf team sit in sixth place out of the six competing teams after the first day at the Hartford Invitational. Kayla Ketcheson (St. Andrews, Manitoba) shot a team-leading 81 (+9), good for 13th place out of 39 golfers.
"It was a good day of golf today, the team played well," head coach John O'Connor said. "Jessica Rottell played her first collegiate tournament and shot a 95, including a 45 on the back-nine, which was a big improvement. I expect big improvements tomorrow. We'll tee off early again, but overall, I'm pretty happy with how we played."
Ketcheson was one of eight players to shoot below-40 on the front nine, finishing with a 39, before shooting a 42 on the back nine to finish at 81. Amanda Nagel (Greenwood, Minn.) and Nicole Ferretti (Rumson, N.J.) both shot an 88 (+16) to put them in a tie for 34th. Nagel shot a 46 on the front nine, before finishing out with a 42. Ferretti went 43-45 for the day. Jennifer Forlenza (Wayne, N.J.) sat in 36th place at 92 (47-45) while Jessica Rotell (Cheshire, Conn.) shot a 95 in her first collegiate competition. Rotell shot a 50 on the front nine, before bouncing back with a 45 on the back.
Siena (+16) led the field, followed by Monmouth (+29), Boston University (+30), Hartford (+37) and Sacred Heart (+38) in front of Quinnipiac (+61).
