DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Quinnipiac women's golf team finished 9th among 11 conference teams after the first day of the 2012 Northeast Conference Championship at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.

"We had a great day today," head coach John O'Connor said. "We had a couple of tough shots that caused problems for us, but there's really no excuse – the weather was great, the course was great."

Kayla Ketcheson (St. Andrews, Manitoba) was the Bobcats' highest finisher on the first day, tied for 24th with an 82 (+10). The Bobcats' top finisher at all but one event this year shot a 42 on the front nine, which featured a pair of birdies, before posting a 40 on the back nine. Ketcheson's 82 was her second best tournament start of the season, following her 81 on the first day of the Hartford Invitational on March 16. Freshman Hannah Russell (Monson, Mass.) tied for 34th  and just three shots back of Katcheson with an 85 (+13), which matched her best career round. Russell shot an 85 on the second day of the ECAC Championship on Oct. 3.
