Women's Golf Finishes 25th At William and Mary's C & F Bank Invitational

The Quinnipiac University women's golf team finished 25th out of 28 teams at William and Mary's C & F Bank Invitational at Kingsmille Resort in Williamsburg, Va. The event, originally scheduled for 54 holes over three days was shortened to a 36 hole tournament, with nine holes played over the last two days, due to severe inclement weather.

"We didn't do as well as I hoped, but this was our first event of the season," head coach John O'Connor said. "It was really the first time we got to play outdoors this spring, so it was very difficult for us. We lacked good feel around the greens, plus they were recently aerated and were very difficult to begin with. The course was very weathered, but everything that we did needs to be finely tuned."

Kayla Ketcheson (St. Andrews, Manitoba), who was tied for 20th on Friday, finished tied for 64th out of 150 golfers. Ketcheson shot a 78 on Friday and finished with an 84 for the second round for a two-day total of 162 (+20). Ketcheson bogeyed seven holes, and double-bogeyed one, on the front nine for the second round before parring six of her final nine holes for the day.

"Kayla played pretty well today," O'Connor said. "Alexa Gentile improved by 14 strokes form yesterday, I'm really proud of her. We have two weeks off, hopefully we can get outdoors between now and the Monmouth tournament and work to make some improvements."

Gentile bounced back after double-bogeying half of the holes for the first round, which resulted in a +32, 103, to card a +18, 89 for the second round. Angelica Muscatelli (North Providence, R.I.) also improved on her previously day's score, shedding a stroke after parring the last three holes she played for the tournament.

Quinnipiac returns to action on Mar. 30-31 when it travels to Jumping Brook Country Club in Tinton Falls, N.J. to participate in the 2013 Hawk Invitational hosted by Monmouth University.
