Women's Golf Freshman Nicole Scola Finishes First Day At Tignanelli Towson Invitational In Top 20

"It was a nice course and we had a good day out there," head coach John O'Connor said. "We Just missed a lot of shots out there. We'll be up early to practice our putting and hopefully we'll make a few more shots to get our score down."

Scola, teeing off on the first hole, parred the first three holes of the day. She bogeyed the third, fourth and ninth hole, while shooting par on the other six holes to go +3 on the front nine. She parred holes 10 through 13 before bogeying four of her last five holes. She would finish her day at +7 with a 79.

"Nicole Scola had a great day," head coach John O'Connor said. "She had a couple of bad holes at the end, but she played like she is going to be a very good golfer. I wouldn't be surprise me if she was in the low 70's tomorrow."

Jenn Whaley (Farmington, Conn.) shot a +11, 83 to finish tied for 40th. Whaley parred six of her first seven holes of the day before a bogey on hole No. 8 and a double bogey on nine put her at +4 (40) for the front nine. Her birdie on hole 15 was the highlight of the back nine that otherwise saw the sophomore captain shoot +7 down the stretch.

Taylor Lambrou (Baldwin, N.Y.) finished at +15 (87) for a tie of 59th while Angelica Muscatelli (North Providence, R.I.) was two strokes behind at +18 (89) for 67th place. Jenn Forlenza (Wayne, N.J.) shot a +21, 93.

"I'm encouraged – eveyrone's game is better than last at this time," O'Connor said. "Last year, we shot a 342, so we improved on that. It could have been 10-15 strokes better today."
