Women's Golf Completes First Round Of Yale Women's Intercollegiate

Quinnipiac women's golf freshman Nicole Scola (Westerly, R.I.) finished the first day of the 2013 Yale Women's Fall Intercollegiate tied for 14th out of 91 golfers while the Bobcats finished the first round in 15th place out of 17 teams.

"I'm very pleased with Nicole Scola today," head coach John O'Connor said. "She proved that she can play with the best that the Northeast has to offer."

Scola shot a team-best 76 (+5) to lead Quinnipiac. The first-year Bobcat runs her streak of sub-80 rounds to five through her first three tournaments of her collegiate career. She now owns five of the top eight single-round scores in program history.

Classmate Emily Ribbins (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) made her Quinnipiac debut at the Yale Intercollegiate. Ribbins finished tied for 55th with an 81 (+10). Sophomore captain Jenn Whaley (Farmington, Conn.) was a stroke behind at 82 (+11) for a tie of 61st place.

"Emily Ribbins really surprised me - I expected her score to be low, but she shot an 81 and that was lower than I expected," O'Connor said. "It's evident that she'll improve moving forward. She's not familiar with team golf, this is all new to her. She was extremely nervous and I expect more from her. Jenn Whaley shot an 82 with a couple of bad holes. It won't take much for her to improve on her score tomorrow."

Angelica Muscatelli (North Providence, R.I.) and Jenn Forlenza (Wayne, N.J.) shot identical 90's (+19) to round out the Bobcats' scorers.

"Angelica Muscatelli and Jenn Forlenza could also shave a few strokes off their rounds," O'Connor said. "I really look forward to the second round and hopefully we end up in better shape tomorrow."

Quinnipiac resumes play at the Course at Yale in New Haven, Conn. on Saturday, Sept. 21 with the final round of the three-day event on Sunday, Sept. 22.
