MORGANTON, N.C. – Senior Jennifer Forlenza (Wayne, N.J.) and sophomore Jenn Whaley (Farmington, Conn.) each carded an 85 to lead the Quinnipiac University women's golf team on Monday's second and final round of the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate.
"The girls played well considering we really haven't had an opportunity to practice on this golf course," said head coach John O'Connor. "Jen Forlenza continued to show great improvement shooting an 85 today and both Jenn Whaley and Alexa Gentile showed improvement from yesterday."
Led by Forlenza and Whaley, Quinnipiac cut three strokes off its first round score by shooting a 349. Their two-day total of 701 placed the Bobcats in 12th place out of 14 teams.
Florlenza's 85 was just four strokes away from tying her career-best, which she set at the 2013 Dartmouth Invitational by firing an 81.
Freshman Emily Ribbins (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) shot an 88 on Monday to finish as Quinnipiac's top individual, tying for 58th out of 78 golfers with a 173 (85-88). Whaley (91-85) finished in a tie for 65th and Forlenza (95-85) moved into a tie for 67th.
"The team as a whole did a number of good things today improving their putting and short game. We are looking forward to competing next weekend at Delaware State."
High Point captured the team title by edging out Western Carolina. Grier Bennett of High Point won the individual title and there was a three-way tie between Sarah Bae of High Point, Patrizia Trevisan of Bethune-Cookman and Casey Ward of High Point for runner up.
Quinnipiac returns to action next weekend, Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6, at the Delaware State Invitational.
