SCHENECTADY, N.Y. The Quinnipiac University women's ice hockey team tied Union, 1-1, Friday night at Messa Rink. Trudy Reyns (Port Hope, Ontario) scored the teams' lone goal with under seven minutes to play in the third period to pull the Bobcats even with the Dutchwomen. Quinnipiac's record now stands at 2-7-3 in ECAC play and 3-18-3 overall. Union is now 0-8-1 in conference play and its overall record now stands at 2-16-3 with the tie.
The Dutchwomen got on the board first at the 12:57 mark of the first period. Adelle Calahan intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and moved the puck to Emilie Arseneault on the right side. Arseneault skated along the boards and move in on Quinnipiac goaltender Nanna Holm Glaas (Stockholm, Sweden). She put Union up 1-0 with a shot just over Glaas' left shoulder for her third goal of the season.
The Bobcats evened the score at one at the 13:40 mark of the third period with on the power play. Elyse Cole (Belleville, Ontario) found Reyns open at the left point and the senior captain blasted a low slapshot past Union goaltender Lundy Day for her third goal of the season. Cole earned her seventh assist of the season on the equalizer.
Quinnipiac goaltenders Glaas and Tia Wishart (Vancouver Island, British Columbia) split time in net. Wishart replaced Glass at the beginning of the second period and earned eight saves, while Glaas stopped two in the opening frame. Day stopped 27 shots in earning her third tie of the season.
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Houston Field House in Troy, N.Y. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
