Victoria Vigilanti Named ECAC Hockey Goaltender Of The Week

HAMDEN, Conn. - Freshman goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) of the Quinnipiac University women's ice hockey team was named the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week. Vigilanti was honored after helping the Bobcats collect two points against Colgate and No. 7 Cornell this past weekend at the TD Bank Sports Center. The first-year goalie recorded 60 saves in 130 minutes of action between the pipes. This is the second time this year that the rookie has been recognized by the league for her efforts in goal.

Vigilanti's weekend was highlighted by her performance Saturday afternoon against the No. 7-ranked Big Red. The freshman turned aside 32 shots by Cornell, holding them scoreless in the third period where the Bobcats scored two goals in the final 30 seconds of play to tie the game, 3-3, and force overtime. Vigilanti's save total was the third-highest of her rookie season.

Quinnipiac and Colgate were scoreless through two periods Friday night before the Bobcats took the 1-0 lead at the 11:39 marker of the third period. After the score, Colgate peppered Vigilanti with 11 shots before netting the tying goal with 2:30 remaining in regulation. The rookie stopped 28 Raider shots in that game.

Through 14 games played, Vigilanti continues to rank atop the ECAC Hockey goaltending leader boards. The freshman currently ranks second in saves (323) and ranks third in save percentage (.939), and goals-against average (1.62).

The Bobcats return to action this weekend when they play in the Nutmeg Classic, hosted by Yale University on Nov. 27 and 28. Quinnipiac will play their first game against the University of Connecticut on Friday, Nov. 27. That game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn.
