HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac women's ice hockey junior Kate Wheeler (Oakville, Ontario), freshman Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario), and sophomore Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) swept the ECAC Hockey MLX Skates weekly awards, as announced by ECAC Hockey on Tuesday, Oct. 5, after the Bobcats swept Niagara University on the Purple Eagles' home ice. Wheeler was named Player of the Week, while Babstock was named Rookie of the Week, and Vigilanti was named Goaltender of the Week.
Vigilanti, the reigning 2009-10 Rookie of the Year and Goaltender of the Year, earned her fifth career Goaltender of the Week honor. For the weekend, she turned back 44 of Niagara's 45 shots, for a save percentage of .978. On Oct. 1, she made 20 saves and posted her first shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory against the Purple Eagles before stopping 24 of 25 shots in a 3-1 victory on Saturday.
Wheeler earned her first-ever weekly award after scoring twice and assisting on another goal in the two-game series. On Oct. 1, she scored two goals to lead Quinnipiac to a 3-0 victory. The following night, she registered her first assist of the season.
Babstock had an impressive first week for the Bobcats, as she tallied two goals and three assists. On Oct. 1, she scored the game's first goal and also passed out one assist in a 3-0 victory over Niagara. On Oct. 2, she scored again and also had two assists.
Quinnipiac opens their home schedule this weekend when they host Northeastern on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. and Sacred Heart on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 5 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.
