HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac women's ice hockey freshman forward Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) was awarded with both ECAC Hockey/MLX Skates Rookie and Player of the Week honors, as announced by the league on Tuesday, Feb. 15. This marks the second time this season Babstock has been named Player of the Week, while the Rookie of the Week selection is her fifth overall.
Babstock had the most productive week of her career, finishing with four goals and four assists in three games played. On Tuesday, Feb. 8 against New Hampshire, Babstock picked up an assist on Quinnipiac's lone goal in a 1-1 tie. On Friday, Feb. 11 against Rensselaer, Babstock figured in all five goals (two goals, three assists) in the Bobcats' 5-1 victory over the Engineers. On Saturday, Feb. 12 against Union, Babstock scored the first and third goals for Quinnipiac, as the Bobcats skated to a 4-0 shutout win. The game-winning goal for Babstock, her ninth, moves her into a tie for first place for most game-winning goals among all NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey skaters.
On the season, the Mississauga native leads all NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey freshmen with 29 goals, 26 assists and 55 points. These same numbers have her ranked fifth overall in both points and goals, and has her tied for ninth in assists. She also ranks 10th in the country in points per game (1.72).
