HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's ice hockey junior goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) and freshman forward Nicole Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario) were named ECAC Hockey Goaltender and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league on Wednesday, Feb. 29. The Goaltender of the Week for Vigilanti marks her third this season, and 12th career selection, while the Rookie of the Week honor for Kosta is her second career selection.
Vigilanti played a key role in Quinnipiac's Quarterfinals upset victory over No. 3-seeded Clarkson, compiling a 1.01 goals against average and a .958 save percentage over the weekend. She solidified her spot as Goaltender of the Week with a 23-save shutout performance in the deciding Game 3 of the Quarterfinals on Sunday, Feb. 26, leading the team to a 2-0 win in what was her 21st career shutout. Vigilanti posted a game-high 25 saves in the team's 4-1 victory on Friday, Feb. 24, while also posting a game-high 21 saves during Saturday's Game 2 loss.
Kosta earned Rookie of the Week honors for the second consecutive week following a five-point weekend (three goals, two assists) in which she scored both game-winning goals for the Bobcats. The freshman led the team to victory on Friday night, scoring two goals (including the game-winner in the first period of play) and an assist. Kosta then registered an assist on Quinnipiac's lone goal during Saturday's loss, before scoring the game-winning first goal on Sunday, Feb. 26.
Kosta currently ranks eighth among all Division I Women's Ice Hockey Rookie skaters with .97 points per game. The team-leader in assists (24) also ranks third among all ECAC Hockey Rookies with 18 points in league play and is tied for fifth overall with 16 league assists.
Vigilanti, Kosta and the Bobcats return to action this upcoming weekend when they travel to face No. 1-seeded Cornell at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 2 in the Semifinals of the ECAC Hockey Tournament
