Victoria Vigilanti Named ECAC Hockey Goaltender Of The Week
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's ice hockey junior goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) has been named ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday, Dec. 13. This marks Vigilanti's second Goaltender of the Week honors this season and her 11th career weekly selection overall.
Vigilanti was a perfect 47-of-47 between the pipes over the weekend, recording back-to-back shutouts against ECAC Hockey opponent Princeton on Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10. On Friday evening, Vigilanti made a game-high 26 saves, keeping the Tigers off the board to preserve the 1-0 win. On Saturday afternoon, she turned away 21 shots during the team's 3-0 win. The last time Vigilanti recorded back-to-back shutouts came during the 2010-11 season, when she blanked Northeastern, 4-0, and Sacred Heart, 5-0, on Friday, Oct. 9 and Saturday, Oct. 10.
With the two shutouts over the weekend, Vigilanti improves her season total to six, which is both an ECAC Hockey and NCAA Division I women's ice hockey high. The Woodbridge native also continues to climb the all-time leader board for NCAA Division I women's ice hockey career shutouts, as she is now in a four-way tie for sixth place all-time with 20 career clean sheets.
Vigilanti, who was last honored with a Goaltender of the Week selection on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, currently holds a .913 save percentage to go along with a 2.03 goals against average on the season.
Following a brief winter break, Vigilanti and the first-place Bobcats return to the ice on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 when they host Dartmouth at 7 p.m. The following Saturday, Jan. 7, Quinnipiac hosts Harvard in an afternoon contest at 4 p.m.
