HAMDEN, Conn. – Sophomore forward Nicole Kosta and associate head coach Cassie Turner of the Quinnipiac's women's ice hockey program have been selected for Team Canada's National Women's Under-22/Development Team. Hockey Canada announced Sunday Aug. 12 the 22 players that will play in a three-game series against the United States' Women's Under-22 Select Team from Thursday Aug. 16 to Sunday Aug. 19 in Calgary.

"We are very excited for Cassie and Nicole," said Quinnipiac women's ice hockey head coach Rick Seeley. "They are both very talented individuals. Quinnipiac University and ECAC Hockey should be very proud to have such exceptional people representing them on a stage of this magnitude."

The 13 forwards, seven defensemen, and two goaltenders were chosen following Canada's National Women's Under-22/Development Team selection camp held Aug. 3-11, at Hockey Canada's home rink, the WinSport Canada Athletic & Ice Complex. The eight-day camp featured 40 players who were chosen by evaluations from Hockey Canada scouts during the 2011-12 season. The players were split into two teams, Blue and Gold, and participated in several practices and three intrasquad scrimmages.

Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario) just completed her freshman season for the Bobcats where she finished with eight goals and a team-high 25 assists. The assist total ranked third in the nation among all freshman skaters and her impressive season garnered Rookie of the Year honors at the team's annual banquet. Kosta has international experience, having earned a silver medal for U-18 Team Canada in the 2011 World Championships in Sweden. She finished the 2011 World Championships with the most goals (5) and points (8) among all Canadian players in addition to being the only player to register at least one point in each of the five games played for Canada. The sophomore forward is also coming off a bronze medal competing for Canada's National Women's U-22/Development Team at the 2012 Meco Cup in Fussen, Germany, in Jan. 2012. Through the five tournament games she tallied one goal and three assists, placing her in a tie for the third most points among Canadians.

Turner joins Canada's National Women's U-22/Development Team as an assistant coach and will be entering her fourth year with the Bobcats. She previously served as an assistant coach with Kosta and Team Canada for the U-18 World Championships in Sweden. Turner is a former standout athlete at Brown, where she helped lead the Bears to two Ivy League and ECAC Hockey Championships, along with an appearance in the NCAA Finals. Her playing career included serving as the assistant captain for the Team Ontario Under-18 Gold Medalist team. She also helped in winning the Air Canada Cup Championship in 2003 as a member of the Team Canada U-22 team. Since joining the Bobcats in 2008, the team has been a consistent ECAC Hockey and national power, winning 60 games in the past three seasons.
