Quinnipiac Submits Bid To Host 2014 NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Frozen Four
HAMDEN, Conn. –Quinnipiac Director of Athletics Jack McDonald has announced that Quinnipiac has submitted a bid to host the 2014 NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Frozen Four at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center.
"Quinnipiac is honored to have the High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center considered as the venue for the 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey Frozen Four," McDonald said. "We feel very confident that our facility, our staff and our fans will show the NCAA, women's ice hockey student-athletes and fans a first class championship experience."
Last year's Frozen Four was hosted by Minnesota Duluth at the Amsoil Arena. In 2013, Ridder Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota will serve as the host site.
In January 2010, Quinnipiac hosted the USA Women's National Ice Hockey Team in a game against the ECAC All-Stars in front of the largest crowd (3,810) to watch a women's ice hockey game in New England.
In addition, High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center has also hosted three American Hockey League (AHL) games and an ECAC Hockey postseason series in each of the last six years since the building's opening.
"Quinnipiac is a perfect venue for the Women's Frozen Four," 2014 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Head Coach Katey Stone said. "Their hockey facility is first rate and will accommodate all teams with ease. The University's Athletic Department staff will ensure this event is supported and promoted to create a great experience for all student-athletes and fans."
The Quinnipiac Department of Athletics will also be working in conjunction with the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce's Sport Council in organizing all amenities necessary to host the event.
