Shiann Darkangelo Named ECAC Hockey Player of the Month for February

ALBANY, N.Y. – Following her 12 point outburst through eight games in the month of February, Quinnipiac women's ice hockey junior forward Shiann Darkangelo (Brighton, Mich.) was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Month, as announced by the league office on Wednesday, March 5. The recognition for Darkangelo is her first career Player of the Month honor.

Shiann Darkangelo led the Bobcats with 12 points (6 goals, 6 assists) through eight games in February. She scored points in seven of the eight games and registered a multi-point game in four of those seven in which she scored. Darkangelo stepped up when her team needed it most as she chipped in four points against opponents ranked in the Top 5, whom Quinnipiac was undefeated against in the month of February (1-0-2).

She started the month off strong with two points (one goal, one assist) in a 2-2 tie against No. 3/5 Harvard and followed with the game-tying goal in the Bobcats' 3-3 come-from-behind tie against No. 3 Clarkson. Darkangelo then rode a five-game point streak into March as she started with two points (one goal, one assist) including the lead assist on the game-tying goal with 1:05 remaining in a 3-3 tie against Yale. The lethal scorer picked up an assist against Brown and notched another helper in what is the biggest win in program history over No. 3 Cornell on the road, 2-1. She closed out February with two points (one goal, one assist) against Colgate and three points (two goals, one assist) in the Bobcats' ECAC Hockey game one victory over St. Lawrence. Her three-point outburst against St. Lawrence is tied for the most points scored by a Bobcat in a single postseason game.

Darkangelo wins the monthly honor while in the midst of a career-year as she has tallied career highs across the boards in terms of points (40), goals (23), assists (17), plus/minus (+27) and game-winning goals (5). The 40-point season for Darkangelo is the most points in in a single-season by a player not named Kelly Babstock in program history. When she reached the 40-point threshold on Saturday against St. Lawrence, combined with Babstock's 49 points this season, it marked the first season in Quinnipiac women's ice hockey history that the Bobcats had two 40-point scorers.

Darkangelo and the Bobcats are gearing up for their ECAC Hockey Semifinal showdown against the No. 1 seed and No. 3 nationally-ranked Clarkson Golden Knights from Cheel Arena this Saturday at 1:00 pm.
