COMO, Italy – The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team departed JFK International Airport on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 5:30 pm, arriving in Milan at 7:30 am on Wednesday, Aug. 13 local time in Italy. The Bobcats were greeted by their EuroSportsTours guides and embarked on their first trip of their 11-day tour around Europe.
The Bobcats were greeted in Milan with cloudy and rainy conditions throughout the morningand into the afternoon. The travel party departed the airport and arrived in the breathtakingly gorgeous city of Como. A short tour followed their arrival in Como as the group circled around the main town square and also had a chance to see the Como Cathedral, known as Duomo.
The Duomo di Como is regarded as the last gothic cathedral build in Italy and serves as the seat of the Bishop of Como. Construction of the cathedral began in the late 1300's and was completed nearly 500 years later in the late 1770's.
The Bobcats also got their first taste of Italian cuisine, sampling authentic pizza at Café Riva. They also had a chance to dine at the Della Torre Pizzeria, a frequent spot for previous Quinnipiac tours around Como, which overlooks the breathtaking Lake Como. At Della Torre, the Bobcats feasted on a four-course meal that included many Italian staples including pasta, tierra masu and veal.
Bobcat fans can follow Quinnipiac throughout its 11-day tour of Italy at the Official Website of Quinnipiac Athletics, www.QuinnipiacBobcats.com. The team will also feature an on-going blog written by the players in the coming days.
