HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University women's lacrosse junior defender Kaitlyn Kelly (North Massapequa, N.Y.) has been named to the 2010 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) North Region Second Team. Kelly becomes the first player in Quinnipiac's program history to be honored with a spot on the IWLCA's national postseason team.
"Being recognized on the IWLCA All-Region team is a tremendous honor for Kaitlyn and the lacrosse program," head coach Danie Caro said. "She is the first Bobcat to be earn this distinction, and that's a sign of how far the program has come."
Kelly receives the honor after a tremendous junior season in which she was named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year as well as a member of the All-NEC First Team. Honored as the team's Outstanding Defensive Player, she led the Bobcats in ground balls (41), draw controls (44) and caused turnovers (25) in 17 games this season. Twice in 2010 she was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week and was named to the NEC All-Tournament Team.
"Kaitlyn had a phenomenal season and has deserved every honor she's been given this year," Caro added. "I was very pleased to see her hard work in the off-season result in tangible accomplishments on the field this spring. Hopefully this will motivate her to continue her development as a lacrosse player."
