HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac women's lacrosse senior midfielder Lauren Matuszczak (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was named Northeast Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday, Mar. 21.
Matuszczak led the Bobcats to their second straight victory of the season and first NEC win of the year, scoring four goals and two assists in a 14-8 win over Central Connecticut on Sunday, Mar. 20. All six of Matuszczak's points came in the second half of Sunday's game, as the senior helped breathe life into a Quinnipiac offense that scored a season-high 10 second half goals. Matuszczak's first goal with 26:29 remaining in the second half gave Quinnipiac a 5-4 lead and by the time of her fourth goal with 10:04 remaining in the game, the lead had expanded to a 13-5 advantage. The senior also contributed two ground balls and two draw controls in the outing.
The East Longmeadow native leads the team with 19 points (13 goals, six assists) and is tied for second on the team with 10 draw controls and five caused turnovers. Matuszczak ranks third in NEC action in points per game (3.80) and goals per game (2.60), and is currently in sixth place with a 1.20 assists per game mark.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Friday, Mar. 25 at 3 p.m. when the team faces NEC opponent Saint Francis (Pa.) on its home turf at Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Field.
