Season's First Home Game
The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team (1-3, 0-0 NEC) hosts its first game of the 2012 season when Vermont (5-2, 0-0 America East) comes to town on Wednesday, March 21. Game time is set for a 2 p.m. start at Quinnipiac Lacrosse Turf Field in Hamden, Conn.

About Vermont
The Catamounts are coming off a 14-11 win over Columbia on Saturday, March 17. Senior Samantha Stern led Vermont with six points (one goal, five assists), while sophomore Sydney Mas and senior Allison Pfohl each finished with a team-high four goals. Pfohl also led the team with three caused turnovers, while senior Cattie Izzo finished with five ground balls. Senior Laura Barber turned away six shots in net for the Catamounts. 

All-Time Against The Catamounts
Wednesday's game will be the eighth time the two sides face each other, as the Catamounts hold a slim 4-3 all-time series lead. In their last meeting on March 12, 2011, Quinnipiac pulled out an 11-10 victory, earning its first win of the season in the process. Senior Lauren Matuszczak collected a team-high four points on three goals and one assist, while junior Marissa Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y.) netted two goals and one assist. Junior goalie Noelle Martello (Westbury, N.Y.) made a game-high nine saves in goal.

Quinnipiac jumped out to a 7-1 lead with just over 15 minutes remaining in the first half, before Vermont closed the half by scoring five of the final six goals to make a halftime score of 8-6. The Catamounts continued their run, netting the first four goals of the second half to take a 10-9 lead, however Quinnipiac stormed back to score four of the final five goals of the game to win in comeback fashion. 

Last Time Out
Quinnipiac fell to Brown, 20-15, on Sunday, March 18. Junior Lianne Toomey (Hicksville, N.Y.) led the Bobcats with four goals on the afternoon, while freshman Kyra Ochwat (Farmingdale, N.Y.) followed with three goals and one assist. Sophomore Michaela Tinsley (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and senior Devon Gibney (Hopkinton, Mass.) each contributed three goals as well, while junior Sarah Allen (Glastonbury, Conn.) earned a team-high four assists.

The Bears led 6-4 through the first 10 minutes of play and would score four of the next six goals to take a 10-6 lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in the half. Quinnipiac tallied the next three goals, before Brown responded with three of its own to take a 13-9 lead into the break. Brown extended its lead to 16-10 after potting three of the first four goals of the second half, but Quinnipiac closed the gap with two straight to make the score 16-12 with 17:08 left to play. Brown went on its final run of the game, scoring three consecutive goals to increase its lead to 19-12, as the Bobcats finished the contest by scoring three of the final four goals to bring the game to its final score of 20-15. 

Freshman Shines
Kyra Ochwat followed up her first week as a collegiate lacrosse player with another solid week, collecting five goals and one assist in three games. She picked up her second career hat trick with a three goal performance on March 18 during the team's 20-15 loss to Brown, scoring all three goals in the second half of play to keep the Bobcats within striking distance. Earlier in the week, Ochwat netted a go-ahead goal late in the first half against St. Mary's (Calif.) on March 12 during the team's 18-14 victory. She then scored a goal against Denver on March 15 during the team's 19-6 loss. Ochwat is currently tied for fourth on the team in total points (nine) and is first among all Bobcats freshman. 

Terrific Toomey
Lianne Toomey had an explosive week for the Bobcats, collecting a total of nine goals and three assists in three games during the week. The junior began the week with a five-point effort on Monday, March 12 in a 18-14 victory over St. Mary's (Calif.). Toomey netted three goals and two assists in the game, including a key goal in a one-goal game (15-to-14 at the time) to put Quinnipiac up two goals with five minutes remaining in the second half. Toomey followed with a three point effort (two goals, one assist) during the squads 19-6 loss to Denver on March 15, before collecting a team-high four goals in the team's 20-15 loss to Brown on March 18. 

Allen's Atop
Sarah Allen's 3.25 assists per game is first on both the team and among all NEC women's lacrosse players. Despite playing in some cases four fewer games than other NEC squads, her 13 total assists currently ranks second in the league. 

Potent Offense
Quinnipiac currently ranks first among NEC teams in points per game (18.25), and is tied for first, with Sacred Heart, with 7.00 assists per game. The Bobcats are also second among NEC teams with 11.25 goals per game. 

Disruptive Defense
The Bobcats pressure on defense has led to its league-high mark of 10.00 caused turnovers per game. 

Get 'Em Gibney
Devon Gibney remains towards the top of the rankings among NEC players in draw controls, as her 4.25 draw controls per game mark currently has her ranked second overall.

Season Schedule
Following Wednesday's game against Vermont, Quinnipiac travels to face Wagner on Friday, March 23 at 3 p.m. This is followed by a contest at LIU Brooklyn on Sunday, March 25 at 5 p.m. Quinnipiac then hosts Mount St. Mary's on Friday, March 30 at 3 p.m. before hosting Monmouth the following Sunday, Apr. 1 at 12 p.m.

Quinnipiac heads out on the road for a three-game stretch against Saint Francis (Thursday, Apr. 5 at 3 p.m.), Robert Morris (Saturday, Apr. 7 at 11 a.m.) and Sacred Heart (Friday, Apr. 13 at 4 p.m.).

The Bobcats finish the regular season with three-straight home contests against Fairfield on Sunday, Apr. 15 at 12 p.m., Central Connecticut on Friday, Apr. 20 at 4 p.m. and Bryant on Sunday, Apr. 22 at 12 p.m.
