Women's Lacrosse Hosts North Haven Youth Lacrosse Clinic
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women’s lacrosse team hosted a clinic for over 60 youth players from the North Haven Youth Lacrosse Club on Sunday following their game against Fairfield. The Bobcats taught basic stick skills, individual offensive and defensive concepts, and worked on game situations with the youth players, who ranged in age from 8 – 15 years old.
“It was really fun to host the clinic,” senior captain Marissa Caroleo said. “The girls were so excited to learn from us and worked really hard to improve their game. It makes us realize what a fun sport we play, and how important it is to share our sport with the next generation of players.”
The Bobcats have had a long-standing relationship with the North Haven program, running annual clinics for the youth players every year since 2008. “We’d like to thank the team for another outstanding youth clinic,” said Alison Uyeki. “Both our coaches and players felt like they gained a great deal from the experience and appreciate the expertise the Quinnipiac players bring to youth lacrosse players.”
“I am really proud of my team for doing such a great job today. It’s hard to put on a clinic after you play a game, and even harder to do it after you lose,” said head coach Danie Caro. “But they recognize how important our community outreach programs are and they had a great attitude and really had fun teaching their sport today.”
“I had fun coaching the goalies at the clinic,” said senior goalkeeper Noelle Martello. “They are like sponges trying to learn everything they can about the position. It made me remember what I was like at that age and someone tried to help me learn the game. I’m really glad I could do that for someone else.”
The Bobcats return to action on Friday, April 20, at 4 pm when host Central Connecticut State in a critical NEC match-up. The Bobcats currently sit in first place in the NEC with a 6-1 record, while CCSU is in third place at 5-2.
