HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's lacrosse freshman attacker Kyra Ochwat (Farmingdale, N.Y.) has been named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday, Feb. 27.
In her first collegiate game with Quinnipiac, Ochwat led the team's offense with three goals during the squad's 18-6 defeat against Connecticut on Saturday, Feb. 25. Ochwat tallied one in the first half, before adding two more in the second half of the game.
"Kyra had a really good game for us against UConn," said head coach Danie Caro. "She was one of our few attackers that was able to remain poised and step up despite the pressure that we faced. As a freshman in her first collegiate game, I think that showed an incredible amount of maturity and a good amount of presence on the field for us. We expect a lot from her moving forward and we couldn't be happier with the way she played on Saturday. We hope we can continue to see that as the season progresses."
Quinnipiac looks to rebound when it returns to action on Monday, March 12 in a non-conference matchup against St. Mary's (Calif.), scheduled to be played at Denver University at 4 p.m. The Bobcats then face Denver on Thursday, March 15, before returning to the east coast to play Brown on Sunday, March 18 at 1 p.m. Quinnipiac's first home game of the season will be played on Wednesday, March 21 against Vermont at 2 p.m.
