HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University has announced the expansion of their varsity athletic program to include women's golf for the 2010-11 season and women's rugby for the 2011-12 season. The addition of the two sports will give Quinnipiac 21 varsity teams by the beginning of the 2011-12 academic year. Individuals who are interested in women's golf and women's rugby are encouraged to click on the link below and fill out a brief survey. "We are very pleased to be adding more opportunities for student athletes to compete in Division I intercollegiate athletics," Director of Athletics and Recreation Jack McDonald said.
Both sports are recognized as varsity sports by the NCAA, with golf sponsoring a championship and rugby granted emerging sport status. The University will continue its commitment to Acrobatics and Tumbling (formerly Competitive Cheer) as a varsity sport. The University will also continue its women's volleyball program for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 academic years. A search for a head coach for both golf and rugby is currently underway.
