Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Sophomore Elisa Cuellar (Palm Bay, Fla.) continued to lead points the Quinnipiac women's rugby team at Vassar. The outside center added two tries and an assist for Quinnipiac to lead them to a 36-12 win against the Brewers at Vassar Farm in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. With the victory, Quinnipiac remains undefeated as it improves to 4-0 and 3-0 in Tri-State Conference play while Vassar drops to 1-1-1 on the year.
Freshman Natalie Kosko (Sebastian, Fla.) added the first try of her career, as she matched Cuellar's two tries while also adding an assist. Senior Nancy Dunn (Moscow, Pa.) and freshman Tesni Phillips (Cheshire, Conn.) each added a try a piece to lead Quinnipiac to their fourth straight victory. Senior fly-half Colleen Doherity (Ashburnham, Mass.) also helped out with an assist.
Quinnipiac remained composed throughout the game, playing at one point with only thirteen players due to penalties, however the Bobcats were able to keep possession from the Brewers and stood at 19-0 for the first half. The defensive line held strong against the frustrated Brewers and played a key factor that brought on Quinnipiac's success.
Senior fullback Krystin Orrico (Cranford, N.J.) went 3 for 6 in conversion points to help capitalize on their margin of victory. With Cuellar's touches, she now leads the team with seven tries and 35 points on the year.
The Bobcats return home and continue Tri-State Conference play on Sunday, Sept. 30, when they take on the Foxes of Marist College on QU Rugby Field on the Mount Carmel Campus. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. The Foxes are 2-1 in conference play and the Bobcats are looking to keep their unbeaten streak from being tarnished.
