Too Legit to Quit
The No. 3 ranked Quinnipiac women's rugby team (14-1, 7-0 Tri-State) will meet the University of Buffalo (7-1 Empire) in the National Tournament consolation game on Saturday, May 4 at the Steuber Rugby Stadium in Stanford, Calif. The teams will take the pitch at 9 a.m.(PST) to play for third place in the 2013 Emirates Airlines National Tournament.
The Championship Format
The remaining teams, Washington State and Winona State will go head to head in the Championship round of the 2013 Emirates Airlines Tournament on Saturday, May 4 at Steuber Rugby Stadium (Stanford University) in Stanford, CA. The Bobcats will meet the University of Buffalo in the consolation match for the chance to take home third place.
All- Time Against Buffalo
This will be the first meeting between the two teams in program history.
Scouting the Buffalo
Buffalo ended a perfect regular season standing at 7-0 in the Empire Conference. In their last match the Buffalo fell to Washington State, 62-0, in the Semifinals round of the 2013 Emirates Airlines National Tournament.
How the Bobcats Got Here
Quinnipiac is still going strong after a perfect 14-0 season heads on to the Semifinal round of the United Emirates Tournament. The Bobcats hosted a play-in round against Temple University back on April 6. Quinnipiac blanked Temple 44-0 as they advanced on to the National round of 16. On April 13, the Bobcats returned to the field as they traveled to Annapolis, Md. to take on Lee University. The Bobcats were victorious as they defeated Lee, 25-10, after overcoming their first deficit of the season. The following day, Quinnipiac faced Appalachian State for a ticket to Stanford, Calif. The Bobcats would once again come out on top, 22-10, against the Flames as they advanced on. Quinnipiac, who is ranked No. 3 in the country finished the regular season perfect at 11-0 in the Tri-State Conference.
The Quinnipiac University women's rugby team claimed the 2012 Tri-State Conference Championship with a 22-14 win over Albany back in November. For the year, Quinnipiac outscored their opponents 605-42 in head coach Becky Carlson's second season. Quinnipiac earned a spot in the national tournament in the spring with their first league championship.
