Women's Rugby Falls To Norwich, 41-5
"Today's result is disappointing, but this is a reality against an experienced team like Norwich," head coach Becky Carlson said. "Moving to this division is going to provide the program an opportunity to play the top teams in the country. We will most likely see Norwich in the postseason."
Freshman Maggie Myles (Emmitsburg, Md.) took a pass from All-American Natalie Kosko (Sebastian, Fla.) and scored her second try in as many games to save the Bobcats from their first shutout in 24 games. Kosko set up the play when she split the Cadets' defense and took off for a long run. Norwich's Joy Clark chased her down and stopped her short of the goal line, but Myles was able to put Quinnipiac on the board just before the end of regulation.
Clark led Norwich with three tries, while Ally Day scored twice as the Cadets held Quinnipiac scoreless for most of the Northeast Rugby Conference match-up. Hannah Bell had a trio of two-point conversions in the first half before she also scored a try in the second half. Baylee Annis also had a try in the first half.
It has been 24 games since Quinnipiac was held scoreless and the first time since Sept. 18, 2011, which was the second game in program history. It is also Quinnipiac's second loss in their last 19 games.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 17 when it travels to Cambridge, Mass. to take on Harvard at 7:30 p.m. The Bobcats host American International for its first home game of the season on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 12 p.m.
