QU Women's Rugby Incoming Freshmen Invited To USA Rugby's 2014 Stars & Stripes Camp For Nation's Top Scholastic Rugby Players

GREELEY, Colo. – Quinnipiac University women's rugby incoming freshman Karee Helgerson and Lily Weldon were invited to participate in USA Rugby's 2014 Stars & Stripes Camp on July 13-15, 2014. The camp  features the top high school boy's and girl's rugby players in the nation, recruited through regional All-Star Tournaments across the country.

The University of Northern Colorado in Greeley will host the second annual Camp, which will see more than 90 boys and girls work with national team and nationally-certified coaches, medical staff, and fitness and nutrition specialists July 13-15 in a high performance environment.

Players will then be split into two teams per gender – two Stars teams and two Stripes teams – for the Stars vs. Stripes matches Wednesday, June 16. Both Stripes teams won the inaugural matches in 2013.

Helgerson comes to Quinnipiac from Putnam, Oregon as the first student-athlete from Rex Putnam High School to play collegiate rugby. Helgerson led Rex Putnam to the Rugby Oregon State High School Championship in 2014. She currently plays for the Rugby Oregon Red Hawk Allstars, which competes regionally against seven western states.

Weldon will make her second trip to the Stars & Stripes camp, after competing in the inaugural game in 2013. Weldon was senior All-American at Summit High School in Summit, Colo.
