Women's Soccer Incoming Freshman Furtuna Velaj Named the W-League National U-19 Player Of The Year

HAMDEN, Conn. – Incoming Quinnipiac women's soccer freshman Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) was named the W-League U-19 Player of the Year. Velaj led the CFC Passion this past season with eight goals as the first-year expansion franchise finished fifth in the nine-team division, falling short of the playoffs by just six points.

Velaj was named to the W-League Eastern Conference All Conference Team as one of the top 33 players in the 41 team league this season. She was also named to the league's "Team of the Week" on three separate occasions over the course of the season. Since the Passion's season ended, she has moved on to play with the CFC of the USL Super-20 League.

Velaj comes to Quinnipiac after a high school career that saw her honored as a three-time All State selection, while also landing on the All FCIAC team. The Bobcats open the 2008 season on Aug. 31 when they host St. Bonaventure at 1 p.m. at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field.
