Women's Soccer Hosts Annual Alumni Game On April 24

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University women's soccer team fell to their alumni counterparts by a score of 3-1 at the annual alumni game held on Saturday, April 24 at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field. Senior Susan Donovan (Cork, Ireland), who was playing for the alumni, was named the Most Valuable Player at the event as she scored the first two goals for the former players. Sophomore Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) scored the lone goal for the current team on the day.

Donovan gave the alumni the early lead in the first half when she connected on passes from Stephanie Blanar '09, and Steph Cintron '05 and booted it past freshman goaltender Biz Cook (Appleton, Wis.). Velaj responded later in the first with an unassisted tally to head into the second half tied at one.

The tie wasn't held for long as Donovan scored her second of the game with a boot from 30-yards out into the upper right corner of the net for the 2-1 lead. Meghan Kennedy '04 scored the third and final goal for the alumni in the final minute of play on a cross by Blanar to secure the 3-1 victory.

Twenty four players played in the event including: Susan Donovan '10, Olivia Kravitz '10, Lindsay Oliveri '10, Kara Barrepski '10, Hanne Walleck '10, Kate Ahearn '09, Steph Blanar '09, Sarah Lusto '07, Leisl Lissfelt '08, Molly Harrington '03, Lauren Carmody '03, Christine LaValle '03, Megan Germain '05, Brittany Lockwood '08, Melissa Ganias '04, Danielle Nugent '09, Cristina Salamone '06, Jen Hirsch '07, Steph Cintron '05 and Meghan Kennedy '04.

Players who attended the event but could not play due to injury included: Kate Lissfelt '08, Rachel See '09, Justine Lombardi '10, and Ali Jaquith '04.
