Women's Soccer Defeats Bryant, 1-0

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Sophomore Jillian Strassner (Avon, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal to lead the Quinnipiac University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win against Northeast Conference opponent Bryant University on Friday, Oct. 22. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 5-6-3 overall and 3-2-3 in conference play, while the Bulldogs fall to 5-10-2 on the season and 3-3-1 in the NEC.

The only goal of the game was scored in the 61st minute of play by midfielder Jillian Strassner for her fourth goal of the season. Senior Meagan McLoughlin (Rocky Hill, Conn.) tallied her second assist of the year with a pass to Strassner, who blasted a shot over Bryant goalkeeper Kelsi Jacob.

"We kept a clean sheet in the first half, which was important", said Head Coach Dave Clarke. "In the second half, we played as well as we've played all year. We scored a great goal, Meagan to Jill, and definitely deserved the win."

Both teams took several shots in the first half, yet neither team could find the back of the net. Overall, the Bobcats outshot the Bulldogs, 16-11.

Earning her fourth shutout of the season, junior goalie Jillian Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.) recorded five saves on the game, while Jacob made seven saves for the Bulldogs.

Quinnipiac travels to Cambridge, Mass. on Monday, Oct. 25 to play Harvard University in a non-conference match-up. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
