Kiting Scores Game-Winning Goal In Women's Soccer's 1-0 Win Against Holy Cross
HAMDEN, Conn. – Sophomore Beck Kiting (Canberra, Australia) scored the game-winning goal as the Quinnipiac women’s soccer team picked up their first victory of the 2011 season against Holy Cross, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 1-4-1 overall, while the Crusaders drop to 2-5-0 on the year.
Kiting scored the game’s lone goal, her first goal of the season and third of her career, in the 79th minute of play. Late in the second half, as the Bobcats kept possession in the Crusaders’ 18-yard box, Kiting got control of the ball and blasted a shot into the left corner of the net, past Holy Cross keeper Carly McCabe.
Quinnipiac stayed ahead of Holy Cross, despite being outshot, 13-to-10, for the non-conference victory. The Bobcats’ senior goalie, Jill Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.), made three stops in net, while McCabe saved three shots for Holy Cross. Overall, the Crusaders gave up seven corner kicks, while Quinnipiac held Holy Cross to one corner kick throughout the match.
The Bobcats return to action when they play their first Northeast Conference game of the year at Sacred Heart on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. at Campus Field in Fairfield, Conn.
