Seniors Kristina Del Mistro (East Williston, N.Y.) and Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) of the Quinnipiac women’s soccer team were chosen to play in the 2011 Division I New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Senior Bowl tentatively scheduled to take place on Dec. 4 at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass. at 11 a.m. Del Mistro and Velaj represent the Bobcats alongside 21 Division I collegiate women’s soccer players in New England.

Del Mistro and Velaj have both had successful careers in the past four years at Quinnipiac. Both players appeared in each of the Bobcats’ 16 games during the 2011-12 season. As a senior, Del Mistro ranked third on the team in points (7) while tallying three goals and an assist. In addition, Velaj led the team in points (14) and goals (6), while also collecting two assists this past year.

“Kristina has been one of the most skillful players in the NEC in her four years at Quinnipiac and her selection to the Senior Bowl is an acknowledgement by the coaches in the region of her undoubted ability,” said head coach Dave Clarke. “She had an excellent season and to play in the Senior Bowl is a good way for her to end her college career.”

“Furtuna has had a career that the majority of players can only dream about,” said Clarke. “Her selection to the Senior Bowl is a recognition of four years of being one of the best players in the region and puts the exclamation point on her Quinnipiac career.”
