HARTFORD, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women’s soccer team lost to non-conference opponent Hartford, 1-0, on Thursday night. With the loss, the Bobcats drop to 0-2-1 on the year, while the Hawks improve to 4-0-1 overall.
"I thought we played very well as times and especially from penalty area to penalty area," said head coach Dave Clarke. "We lacked a cutting edge final ball and some creative spark. We were punished for a lack of concentration on their winning goal. I was very frustrated at the final whistle because we had nothing to show for our efforts and some players, including Lavoie, Young, Smith, Miles and Kiting, did not deserve to be on the losing team."
The Hawks’ Caitlin Alves scored the game’s lone goal, her fourth of the season, in the 28th minute of play. Alves registered a shot at the center of the goal and finished the play off a deflection from Quinnipiac goalie Jill Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.) Kelley posted one stop in net, while Hartford keeper Erin Quinlan made no saves in the game. The Bobcats were outshot by the Hawks, 7-3.
Quinnipiac continues play on the road with a non-conference match-up at Yale on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. under the lights.
