Bobcats Take On Bulldogs
The Quinnipiac women’s soccer team will travel to face Yale University in a non-conference game on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. at Reese Stadium in New Haven, Conn. The Bobcats enter the match-up at 0-2-1 on the year, while the Bulldogs stand at 1-2-2 overall.

Scouting Yale
Yale enters Tuesday night’s game with a 1-2-2 record. The Bulldogs recorded their only win of the year against Marist, 2-0, in their first game of the season. Since the victory, Yale tied both Providence, 0-0, and Sacred Heart, 1-1, prior to falling to Rutgers, 1-0. In their most recent outing, the Bulldogs lost to St. John’s (N.Y.), 2-1, on Sept. 11 on the road. Bulldogs freshman Melissa Gavin scored the team’s lone goal in the defeat. Currently, the Bulldogs’ offense is led by freshman Meredith Speck, who’s scored a team-high two goals, while rookies Gavin and Georgina Wagermann have each tallied one goal. Yale goalie Adel Jackson-Gibson has appeared in each of the team’s five games, making 21 stops in net. The Bulldogs are led by head coach Rudy Meredith, who enters his 17^th season in 2011.

All-Time Against The Bulldogs
Tuesday’s contest marks the ninth meeting between Quinnipiac and Yale. The Bobcats look for their first win against the Bulldogs, as Yale leads the all-time series, 8-0.

Last Time Out
In its most recent outing, the Bobcats lost to Hartford, 1-0, on Sept. 10. The Hawks’ Caitlin Alves scored the game’s only goal. Overall, both teams combined for 10 shots in the game.  

Home Opener This Weekend
After four-straight games on the road, the Bobcats will host Lehigh in their home opener on Friday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. Quinnipiac will then play Holy Cross on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field in Hamden, Conn.

Last week, senior Furtuna Velaj was recognized in an article written by ESPN.com’s Graham Hays. The article features the Santa Clara University starting goalkeeper and 10 NCAA Division I women’s soccer players, whom hays feels will have a great potential to make an impact this season. Last year, Hays also wrote a feature, “From refugee to soccer star,” on Velaj’s journey from her native Kosovo to the United States, as well as her future aspirations in political science following her collegiate career. The Situation At Siena
The Bobcats lost, 1-0, at Siena on Sunday, Sept. 4. Overall, Quinnipiac tallied 12 shots in the game, while Siena took 16 shots. Senior goalie Jill Kelley recorded her first loss of 2011, despite posting seven saves, compared to the Saints’ goaltender’s five stops.

Season Opener
Quinnipiac tied Canisius, 2-2, after 110 minutes of play, in its season opener on Friday, Sept. 2. Senior Furtuna Velaj led the Bobcats as she scored each of their two goals. Junior Shauna Edwards helped create both opportunities and was awarded an assist on Velaj’s first goal of the game. In addition, Jill Kelley kept the Bobcats alive with six stops in net.

Freshmen Favorites
Jess Lavoie is the only freshman to start in each of the Bobcats’ games this year. The rookie midfielder has played a total of 285 minutes, the most of any freshman, in her first three appearances with Quinnipiac.

Kelley’s a Keeper
Senior goalkeeper Jill Kelley has played every minute of Quinnipiac’s first three games of the year. Kelley has made a total of 14 saves in 290 minutes of play.

Posting Points
Shauna Edwards picked up her 10^th career point at Canisius on Sept. 2. The junior tallied her first assist of the year, and fourth of her career, in the 2-2 draw.

Good Fortune
Senior Furtuna Velaj was recently named a top potential draft pick by www.AllWhiteKit.com. The women’s soccer site also name Velaj as one of the top collegiate forwards in the country

NEC Preseason Coaches’ Poll
The Quinnipiac University women’s soccer team was picked to finish fifth out of 11 teams, in the 2011 Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Bobcats finished last season 7-7-4 overall and at 5-2-3 in conference play, which secured a spot for the Quinnipiac in the 2010 NEC Tournament.

What’s Ahead for the Bobcats
Quinnipiac finally returns home to host Lehigh on Sept. 16 and Holy Cross on Sept. 18, prior to playing its first Northeast Conference games of the year at Sacred Heart on Sept. 23 and Fairleigh Dickinson on Sept. 30.

Quinnipiac kicks off October with four-straight contests at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field, including games against Robert Morris on Oct. 8, Saint Francis (Pa.) on Oct. 9, Long Island on Oct. 14, and Wagner on Oct. 16. The team will then make trips to Monmouth on Oct. 21, Mount St. Mary’s on Oct. 23 and Central Connecticut State on Oct. 28, before hosing Bryant on Oct. 30 for the final game of the regular season.
