HAMDEN, Conn. – Senior midfielder Shauna Edwards (Southington, Conn.) was named to the 2012 College Sports Madness Northeast Conference Women's Soccer Preseason All-Conference First Team, announced on Monday, August 13, 2012 by members of the association. The list of athletes includes the top players in women's soccer for the upcoming campaign.
"Shauna has the potential to be the best player in the league and can have a huge impact on the program in her senior year," said Head Coach Dave Clarke. "She has matured as a player and last year lived up to expectation placed upon her. She has put in a lot of hard work in the off season to help fulfill some of her own individual goals and if she achieves them then I think the team will also have a successful season."
Edwards, a 2011 All-NEC Second Team selection, made 15 starts and appeared in all 16 games for the Bobcats last season. She netted three goals and dished out three assists from her midfield role, ranking her amongst the team leaders for the categories. Her three assists placed her in a two-way tie for first, her nine total points was good enough for second, and her three goals ranked placed her in a two-way tie for second. She compiled three multiple-point games, including a season-high three points with a goal and assist in a 4-2 win at Fairleigh Dickinson.
The Bobcats open the 2012 season against Big East power Providence on Sunday, August 26, 2012. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at the QU Soccer Field.
