HAMDEN, Conn. – Senior Kemesha Woodfine (Stamford, Conn.) collected the game-winning goal on Friday afternoon, as the Quinnipiac University women's soccer team defeated Vermont, 2-1, at the QU Soccer Field on Mount Carmel Campus. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 1-1 against the Catamounts all-time, and 2-0 on the young season.

Fresh off an impressive win over BIG EAST rival Providence College, the Bobcats continued to click offensively and defensively against an experienced Catamounts squad. After a quick start from the visitors, Quinnipiac took advantage of its first opportunity in the 12th minute of play. Senior Crystal Burns (Overland Park, Kan.) whipped in a corner kick, where Edwards redirected the ball to sophomore Christina Cesarini (Garden City, N.Y.). Cesarini reacted quickly and knocked the ball into the back of the net for a 1-0 Bobcat lead.

The remainder of the half featured a back-and-forth affair, but neither team managed to find the game's second goal. UVM held a 6-5 advantage in shots, while QU earned four corner kicks to Vermont's three. Each goalkeeper need to make just one save apiece.

After the intermission, the Woodfine and the Bobcats added some insurance to their one-goal lead. Quinnipiac earned its fifth corner kick of the contest, where the ball landed at the feet of freshman Amanda Barroca (Bellmore, N.Y.). Barroca rattled the woodwork with a blast from just inside the 18-yard box, the ball deflected to Woodfine who calmly slipped a shot past the Catamount goalkeeper for a 2-0 lead.

From that point on, Quinnipiac's defense was called upon to preserve the two-goal advantage. Vermont managed to manufacture a goal late in the contest, but senior goalkeeper Jill Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.) and the Bobcats' defense held on for their second win at the QU Soccer Field.

Kelley made two saves on the afternoon for her 20th career win with the Bobcats. Her counterparts, Ally Ramos and Morgan Nichols, each made one save in the game.

The Bobcats return to action on Sunday, September 2 with their first true road game of the 2012 campaign. Quinnipiac travels to Holy Cross for a 12 p.m. tilt at Linda J. Smith Stadium.
