HAMDEN, Conn. – Graduate of Quinnipiac Law in 1999, Felice Duffy joined the Quinnipiac University women's soccer team as a guest speaker on Saturday morning in the conference room of the Athletics and Recreation Center on Mount Carmel Campus.
"It was an honor to have Felice as a speaker," said senior goalkeeper Jill Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.). "She was able to connect with us, not only as players with a common passion for soccer, but also as female athletes who aspire to be successful in a predominantly male driven sport. With her stories and motivational words, she painted a picture of the true meaning of hard work and how unending persistence can fulfill dreams. Also, having the attitude of a team player will bring you success far beyond the field into life as a professional."
Duffy's collegiate career began in 1979, when her persistence in Title IX legislation led to the establishment of the UConn Huskies women's soccer team. Duffy served as the team-captain for five seasons and earned an All-American First Team selection in 1981.
Upon graduation, Duffy went on to play soccer on the national level for a few years. After that she decided to endure a collegiate coaching career, when she was hired as the Yale Women's Soccer Head Coach. She endured quite a bit of success with the Bulldogs, leading the team to an Ivy League Conference Championship. Following her stint as a coach, she decided to go to law school at Quinnipiac University, where she graduated No. 1 in her class.
With the non-conference slate in the rearview mirror, Quinnipiac women's soccer looks ahead to the all-important Northeast Conference schedule. The Bobcats open NEC competition with Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, September 21 at the QU Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
