Moon Township, Pa. –Junior Beck Kiting (Canberra, Australia) scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute of action to lead the Bobcats to the 2-1 victory over the Colonials of Robert Morris Friday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium. With the victory, the Bobcats improve to 9-5-2 (5-3-1 NEC), while Robert Morris falls to 1-16-2 (1-7-1 NEC) in the season. The triumph puts the Bobcats one step closer to qualifying for a playoff bid into the postseason.
Senior defender Shauna Edwards (Southington, Conn.) was able to get the offense going midway through the first half with her second goal of the season. Edwards connected off a long cross from freshman forward Amanda Barroca (Bellmont, N.Y.), placing a shot just over the head of RMU's freshman keeper Chelsea de Jager. With the goal Quinnipiac was able to retreat to the locker rooms up at the half.
As the second half got underway the Bobcats saw many opportunities on the offensive end. Senior Kemesha Woodfine (Stamford, Conn.) nearly extended the margin with a blast from 15-yards out. Unfortunately, her shot rattled the woodwork and deflected away from danger.
Just as it seemed like Quinnipiac would escape with a 1-0 victory, Robert Morris found the equalizer with six minutes left in regulation. Freshman Jenny Eriksson scored off a corner kick from junior Johanna Kadam, to put it past senior goalkeeper Jill Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.) inside right post to even the score at 1-1.
RMU'S tie was short lived however; as Quinnipiac found a way to answer back. Junior Aine McKeever (Derry City, Ireland) found Kiting off of a free kick where she found the back of the nylon in the 88th minute of regulation to give the Bobcats a thrilling 2-1 win over the Colonials. The tally marks Kiting's second game-winning goal of the season.
For the game, Quinnipiac outshot RMU, 16-13, and surrendered a 6-2 edge in corner kicks. Kelley made four saves in the game for Quinnipiac, and improved to 7-5 on the season.
Quinnipiac continues their trip through Pennsylvania visiting St. Francis of Loretto, Penn. Sunday, October 28. The Bobcats will face off against the number one ranked Red Flash at 1 p.m. on DeGol Field as they vie for a playoff bid into the postseason.
